Housing market!?

Now I see new names buying huge stuff for ridiculous amounts of money, which leads me to think I was doing something wrong.

When I joined last year, I spent my first month luring liches, trolls and such to the guard shacks so I could loot them after the guards killed them. I eventually scraped together enough my first small.

I don't "think" I was doing it wrong. I know.

I have two things to add here:

1. Wil is right.

2. I don't IDOC anymore, at least not regularly (get thrown a bone once in a while - point of contention about why the prices are dropping dramatically and daily). The whole purpose of IDOCing is to acquire a lot of stuff + funds. Which is why it amazes me that in such a short period of time all of the normal IDOCers have raped themselves. Supply and demand is the principle, and when I was doing most of the houses when solo teaming with Smit, people would PM me about when to sell and what to sell at. I would advise them, and thus market control stabilized. Open communication helped me as a part rape this shard's housing market. Now all of these different teams just completely ignore that there's already an L-shape on the market, or there's already a tower. I think two weeks ago I saw 9 towers on the market at once. Where's the supply and demand there? Just hold houses, winter is coming. While I'm not in the housing market too much anymore, I find it ridiculous that people who fundamentally operate on greed and material possession can't get over petty drama to fulfill their own quotas.

tl;dr I wouldn't hire 90% of IDOCers to run a business that ran itself.

That's not entirely true, when IDOC'ing if you do it properly you'll spend roughly 10-15 minutes at the house and probably 2-3 hours of checking loot unless you're running a damn good organizer macro. (Thanks Malifice)

But on the other side of things you would make more money turret farming with a tamer for a couple hours than you'll make at a IDOC 70% of the time.

I don't need to google it. I understand that when supply exceeds demand that prices drop. What I wrote clearly points out that the monkeys behind the wheel right now aren't smart enough to figure out that they need to hold houses. I actually see no where in my post that would make you think that I don't understand that prices drop when people list too much, it says quite the contrary.

Difference is you can be at an IDOC and get unlucky (not place, not get the item you were going after, chests you pick up are junk, etc.). If you're turret farming you are making a steady 100k/hour without really even trying. Also a 7x tamer isn't really that difficult to make..mine took a little less than 2 weeks and I wasn't even that dedicated to finishing it.

I will say that I got my first chunk of gold by looting a black dye tub and placing a small at an IDOC tower shortly after I started...sometimes you just get lucky!

Your statement was quite contrary and that was my point...in a housing "market" the economics of that market are dictated by supply & demand.

In a 'monopoly' the economics are dictated by select individuals. Supply & demand are no longer a function of the 'market' or the pressures of that markets supply & demand motivators. It ceases to be a 'market' at that point and becomes a 'monopoly'...c'mon I know you've played that game...you know this...you can't have both a free market and a complete monopoly of the same market. Mutually exclusive...

The market indicators you are seeing, namely the drastic increase in market supply IMHO is a direct result of you're exiting, and therefore relinquishing control of, the monopoly you had over said market and it is now, however briefly, reverting back it's natural state as a 'free market'...the increased supply will now force prices down to a certain level...until another IDOC crew takes up the banner and monopolizes the housing market once again, of course...

as is always the case in UO...

You really think it's as easy as just walk up stand near the item you want and it appears in your bag?
You seem to think you're the only one that's seen the idoc?
You think nobody else is going to go for the high ticket items and compete with you?

I'm love to see you come out and do a few idoc's to be honest, you'll see it's much rougher than "Show Up Collect Monies". If you have the time stop turret farming making a steady income and go run the entire map or at least 1/2 of it, once you've done that and collected your GW/FW/SW runes you'll then need to tie up at least one account to run the "timing macro" you're referring to so that you can get the idoc timer. By the way, don't forget your accounts now unaccessible while timing because hey; you don't want to miss your timer.

Oh Wait... I almost forgot! There's people constantly revealing you or luring onto your timing char so chances are you'll have to stop anything you're doing and go res him a few times.

Anyone that I talk to that IDOC's now we have mutual understandings that we will not bend the buyer over the counter and stick it to anyone anymore just to be a prick. Housing has come back down to reasonable prices for multiple reasons and you can't say just Vega not idoc'ing has caused that. It's summertime, population always dwindles down in the summer on most games as many people find out during this time of year the sunlight does not actually hurt you.

Housings reasonable yet we still have people complaining about buying a house for 3x deed but yet paying 500k-60mil for sandals. Just saying

There are far more market types than monopoly and free market and Vega by no means had a monopoly. (if he had, he would be the only one selling houses at all). Nor will it get to be a free market since people will have preference on each house due to its location.

In my guess supply will raise spring/summer and stagnate/fall fall/winter and virsa verse with demand. That means you would see a very large fluxation between sommer and winter in regards to house prices (not taking small into account)

Smit no one said idoccing is easy, but it sure as shit beats hours of farming. Example? Make a new character with hiding, maybe stealth, and a little magery and sit an idoc trying to get loot. If the house is loaded your sure to at least get something, now, lets say theres 3-4 houses that collapse a day. If you know how to time the idoc correctly, you can make out pretty well.
As for you and your idoc crew, obviously you have it down to science, which Im sure was complicated to get it to, but come on man, you cant honestly think idoccing is harder then farming. Heres a great example, why is it every person on this server is part of the "idoccing community" is rich as shit, but the farmers who try to make gold the old fashioned way are broke as a joke? Im not hating on farmers or idoccers, but if I had an "idoccing crew" to run with, then hell yea Id fucking never farm again.
