Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone

bump to the top, fully support this!

What would it be? It isn't mechanically era-accurate.Velgamog wrote:Can someone tell me if this is even being considered ?
There's no reason why the players who choose to call themselves "orcs" can't just go red like the rest of us.
Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Because there's a precedent already with the Bloodrocks?Pac wrote:

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Pac you are completly missing the point here. The whole idea is to have this count free zone so EVERY ONE who goes to the Yew Fort can freely attack or be attacked by ANYONE without taking counts. It's not about "going red like the rest of us" as you say, It's for all players who love a good battle in a known PVP area. Most players who go to the Yew Fort are there for action with Orcs and at times when a large group of players take that fort I have seen them fight amongst themselves. This is for the benefit of the shard's players not for any single guild.
Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
If I don't wish to be "FREELY attacked" by anyone with no ability to report the murder, would I have to totally avoid that area?
I don't agree to being excluded from an area, nor do I agree to being attacked without being able to report the attacker.
You wish to kill me, then take the count and go red if applicable ... or make your own server and set your own rules.

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Vav...you have an entire world for this. We're asking for a single fort

We are a different, well respected orc tribe who are generally known as being an interesting and positive asset to the games we play. Having an active, organized orc army to battle against (or be a part of) brings a fun new battle objective to an otherwise desolate area. Think of it as a world-event taking place, a war that will continue to unfold in real time.

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Hope this isn't just another fly-by night bunch wanting Derrick to give them a handout because they happen to have a "nifty" idea and bought some houses in the area surrounding the Yew Orc Fort. I would suggest that they make use of the warring system for guilds already in-place or go red if they are worried about "counts" being given. I've never known an orc that was afraid to take a count on behalf of his/her clan.
If Derrick just started handing out "freebies" to any group that sprung up with the next "great idea" we'd have a shard that would quickly become unrecognizable as there would be "Count Free" zones sprouting up all over the place.
It would only follow that if you allow one group to do it, you have to allow any other group to do it if you wish to remain impartial.
What would prevent a guild from wanting a "count free" zone on top of their guild tower because they want to have weekly fight nights because setting up two warring stones would be too hard. There are many pitfalls with allowing "special" groups such a concession. It does have an impact in regards to other's gameplay and that , I believe, should be considered before Derrick declares the Yew Orc Fort a "Free PvP Zone".
That being said I wish the Shadowclan Orcs the best of luck in their endeavors to revive an old favorite, hope to see more of them.

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Shadowclan is anything but fly-by night. The clan has been active for more than the 15 years I have been associated with the “guild”, and OFFICIALLY recognized in multiple MMOs. For example, see:
- Shadowclan on uo.com: http://www.uo.com/Shadowclan
- DAoC’s description of the kobol race specifically mentions Shadowclan when we were kobolds on Mordred (we were also on Guinevere): http://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Kobold
- Blizzard interview: http://wow.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=21679
- Raph Koster: http://www.raphkoster.com/2006/12/18/ho ... morabilia/
The clan has been involved with Beta testing and playing almost every major MMO release since 1997 and it has always strived to have a “positive” impact on the game world.
So fly-by night is not a phrase I would consider applicable. You do have a point about the clan’s existence on UOSA though. It is possible that the Shadowclan Orcs may not remain active on this server for a long time, but only time will tell. As far as era-accuracy, it is true that Shadowclan was officially awarded ownership of the Yew Orc Fort on Catskills, as you can read about in that UO.com article. Having a no-count zone, similar to that at the Bludrock fort, can be argued as NEA because that wasn’t the case on OSI servers. However, the precedent has been set here, and it is something that would be good for the whole server rather than a select few.

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
Your UOSA history as a clan is limited. I doubt you will be getting any town add ons.
There is already an orc clan on this server, who have been semi active for years, assimilate?

Re: Yew orc fort: a count-free warzone
The clearest way of explaining why that can't be done is this - what you're asking is akin to telling the Yew Militia [YEW] to set up in Vesper because a similar guild were previously established there. They would not base their operations out of anywhere but Yew, similarly the Shadowclan have, throughout their entire UO history, inhabited the Yew orc fort.
