Tamer/followers questions?

So I seen a lot of people talk of tamers on the board and ran into a pretty nice one who had 6 dragons and we talked about taming in game for a bit. So I thought I'd get to know more about it and looked up followers in the ingame help section. It said you could only have 5 followers and having a dragon counted as 3 of those followers.... when did this change so you could have a unlimited number or is this just a cause of the in game help function being wrong?

The "Codex of Wisdom" is built into the client and includes all kinds of things that pertain only to modern UO.

The best source of era info that I've been able to add into the game is the tips window. Type [tips repeatedly to browse them.
