I have found that NPC vendors will buy crossbows for less than bows yet crossbows take the same amount of materials and are more difficult to make. I went to 2 bowyers, a weaponsmith, and a blacksmith and they all offered me the same prices. That is:
bow: 31gp
exceptional bow: 34gp
crossbow: 28gp
exceptional crossbow: 30gp
Surely this is not correct!
I have read the bowyers essay stratics (http://uo.stratics.com/content/professi ... says.shtml), which seems to have been written in the T2A era, and says that NPC's will pay more for weapons which are more difficult to make.
Also in T2A wiki on bowcraft and fletching it says that boywers will pay more then blacksmiths and weaponsmiths for bows, however I have found that this is not the case. Is this an error in T2A wiki or in game?
I guess this isn't a big deal, but when you are making thousands of bows to gain bowcraft and fletching a few gp more per bow ends up being quite a sum of money.

There seems to be some discrepancy on the bow values on stratics too.

Re: bow and xbow buying prices at NPC vendors
The page that Derrick linked is the same page that I viewed as well. The one significant difference between the listed values on stratics and the values for player crafted items is the fact that sell price takes into account the durability of the item when determining sell price. The values from stratics are assumed to be the sell value for an item that is bought directly from a vendor. Those items have a static maximum and current durability and thus have a static buy/sell price (unlike player crafted items). As for the reason that there are two listed prices for weapons on the stratics page, that may have to do with the fact that Bowyers had a preference for bows, but would not purchase any other weapon. Finally, because we do not currently have any consideration for the current durability of an item (correct me if I'm wrong on this point Derrick), bows and crossbows will sell for the same amount. According to the stratics weapons page, bows have a durability of 31-60 (45.5 avg) and crossbows have a durability of 31-80 (55.5 avg). Accounting for the durability of the items, bows would generally sell for less than crossbows, and exceptional versions would see an even bigger difference in sell price. Of course, we won't see this functionality without any differentiation in cost based on weapon durability.

Durability as a ratio of the original durability, as well as quality are both considered in the vendor sale price.
Still looking into this one though

I remember my newbie in 1999-2000 making and selling the wood shields for alot more gold than this shard NPC's buys them for. Here they buy them for 38gp, and the price goes down fast.Derrick wrote:Interesting:

After the wood shields i sold shadow heaters to NPC's making a good profit. It does seem the NPC's here are very tight, and not offering those few higher selling items for the crafters, like in the day

And also, there wasn't the 5 items at a time limit, and the npc didn't lower the price as you sold more. My newb stayed in ocollo and the NPC bought every wood shield at the same good price. Didn't this new feature come out much later, like around the time of AOS?
Re: bow and xbow buying prices at NPC vendors
Just like NPCs charging more when they had less of an item, I believe they paid less for items they had more of in stock (if sold separately and not all at once). NPCs on OSI also only had like a 1200 - 2000 gold range for purchasing from players. After that limit was reached:Kamora wrote:I remember my newbie in 1999-2000 making and selling the wood shields for alot more gold than this shard NPC's buys them for. There seems to be some discrepancy on the bow values on stratics too.It was a good way to make gold before you were able to go hunting. Or for those that just wanted to play a crafter.

"Sorry, but I cannot afford anymore items right now."
You'd have to wait until their gold restocked.
Re: bow and xbow buying prices at NPC vendors
I just remember chopping and selling in the same town (ocollo) and bragging to my GM about how i can make 5k gold every 30-45 minutes selling the wood shields. And he of course, replys with how he makes XXX,XXX soloing the lich lordsCutpurse wrote:Just like NPCs charging more when they had less of an item, I believe they paid less for items they had more of in stock (if sold separately and not all at once).
