Lockpicking Question concerning trapped chests

Post by Malheki »

How far do I need to be away to open the chest after I pick it to not take damage? And is it better to use telekinesis?

Tmap chests you will always take damage and you must use telekinesis or remove-trap, dungeon chests you just need to be two full tiles away (one tile space between you and the chest).

This works ONLY FOR DUNGEON CHESTS, and it is 2 tiles away (one free tile between you and the chest). As a rule of thumb: as far away as you can and still open the chest.

DISCLAIMER: There are 2 chests that I know of, 1 in Hythloth and 1 in Covetous that can still cause damage when opened. These are not "normal" dungeon chests and they very seldomly lock, but they require the use of the telekinesis spell. Chances of encountering either of these chests locked is slim to none.

Just to make sure i understand this clearly, I can be "2" tiles away and double click the chest on dungeon chests but on Tmaps i should step back "2" tiles and use telekinesis or does the distance matter when using telekinesis?

No, step 7-8 tiles away and use tele-K, 2 tiles and you'll take damage.

easy way to check your out of range on dungeon chest is to try and pick it again. if your too close you get the ''That is not locked'' message.

its 4 tiles for telekineses on any chest tmaps are 4 tiles with telekineses OR remove trap.

Dungeon chests 2 tiles

Shops boxes and crates remove trap or 4 tiles away telekineses
