I have been reading a lot on the EA uo forums, and there are a lot of people wishing EA would create a server, that is pretty much like this one. I'm curious if EA could sponser a little free-shard like this one. I think skill gain is to fast, and the shard would have to be reset, which is another topic. But that would mean a huge influx of people. Maybe only charge 5 dollars a month for new people, and current second age peeps could play for free. Just a rough idea. but i think a server like this on EA's list would quickly become popular, and if it made EA money.. theres no reason it couldn't happen.
Oh also, I think only one account per ip should be allowed. Not that I know everything, but the fun people talk about recapturing comes from, when even being a 3x gm, means something. When skill gain became easy the game went to crap. Also multiple accounts make macroing most everything simple. Hard skill gain creates motivation to be better than every1 else whos stuck with skills in the 70's range. And it makes pvp way more dynamic. I plan on writing a whole article about these ideas, and I beleive the argument is very convincing.
Thinking big
Re: Thinking big
Whether EA did that or not, I'd say it's a strong guarantee that they would host the server themselves.
Re: Thinking big
I very much concur with your thoughts on skill gain. We spent quite a while trying to get skill gain to a reasonable rate. I can say that it will never get any faster than it is now anyway. I look forward to reading your article.

I love thinking big and I think Derrick has something great here. As soon as CharacterPlanet.com relaunches I plan on using some of my E-muscle to help him grow this terrific project.
Re: Thinking big
Not to discourage your ideas, but the game is over 10 years old now. Yes, there are players who would love to see the old-days again, but as a majority most people would be turned off by a deathly-hard skill gain, like OSI. I realize it worked for OSI, but at the time that was the only servers availble, so it was play or quit. With the creation of RunUO the UO Economy & Players have changed a bunch, and nowadays to grasp those people to play on your server, you have to stand out amongst the other thousands of servers available..ultimaforever wrote:I have been reading a lot on the EA uo forums, and there are a lot of people wishing EA would create a server, that is pretty much like this one. Re: Thinking big
I agree with the point on skill gain and multiple accounts. I love being able to macro with myself (hehe!) but I think in the long run it does make things a little less dynamic.
I pretty much assume anyone I come up against in Pvp is at least 4x GM if not 7x.
Would you ever consider resetting the server though Derrick? I know lots of people will be pissed if they loose their characters.

A server reset or wipe is incredibly unlikely to ever happen.LargePiece wrote: Would you ever consider resetting the server though Derrick? I know lots of people will be pissed if they loose their characters.

I'm a chemistry set that makes only firecrackers and smoke bombs.

Re: Thinking big
Righto. I'm kind of in two minds about whether a server wipe with slower skill gain would be good or not. I imagine ultimately it would loose more players than it would gain though.
I'd also be highly surprised if OSI would sponsor a t2a server that they weren't running themselves however. It doesn't seem to make much sense from a business point of view supporting a server that would compete with theirs.
Can you post that article here ultima, if you write it?
