Player Base
Re: Player Base
No Drop/No Give meaning it can't be looted from their corpses and it gives NO tangible benefit aside from appearance.
I would be totally down for things like this, as well as say some sort of death robes for the undead types, or crowns and other shit for monarchies and what have you.
Space travel is reserved for the insane and I approve.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I highly doubt you're going to just randomly call someone up and get them to take a dump all over a privacy policy.
Save yourself the shame and embarrassment and just assume that if you can't understand me...you're the one who's retarded.

Re: Player Base
Even when playing other shards I have always praised the dedication and committed to EA and if some of you have not played other shards you are lucky to have someone like Derrick to work with.
With all that being said your two main types of UO players in the freeshard world are the pvpers and rare trammy collectors. Most people feel as though the pvp here is no existent and there is 0 chance to start on this shard now and ever have a chance of making a dent on the economy and getting the cool things.

Not true, PvP exists and there's plenty of trash talk to prove it. It's out there, it's often imbalanced and only a really fair fight when you're in a private arena setting with rules agreed upon. Otherwise, it's mostly gank-fests and Recall duels.Lambo wrote:Even when playing other shards I have always praised the dedication and committed to EA and if some of you have not played other shards you are lucky to have someone like Derrick to work with.

Everyone has a chance to get cool things because players quit and give away stuff or their homes collapse leaving 'cool' things all over the ground. The people who get those lucky finds can then sell to those who don't get the lucky finds, because they were out farming 100kgp an hour from LLs or EGs with a 30 dragon turret.

Re: Player Base
A good target market would be people who currently play OSI
People tend to get pretty loyal to their given freeshard, but everyone can agree that modern OSI sucks the nut.
Why pay $15/month for an assy experience when you can get an awesome one for FREE?
It's Science.

Unfortunately people change their e-mail adresses every now and then.Robbbb wrote:I was thinking more along the lines of someone getting in contact with the correct person at the current OSI and seeing if it would be possible to get an email list of people that played from begginning until mid-late 1999, that dont play anymore, so that we can blast out an email.
Or get into contact with Lord British and see if he has the list, I know if I was him I would have grabbed all of that data for my own stash before I left/sold it. =)

+1 this thread.

I was not saying this is my opinion. Having played here a short time I realize pvp is there but the outside world looks at this shard as the "short bus" for uo pvp and think the economy is screwed up bc they stoppe those events .

How did they 'screw up the economy' by removing the free pixels?Lambo wrote:I was not saying this is my opinion. The best thing you people whining about events can do is to go make an event yourself. Stop crying.

Re: Player Base
This is exacty why I never post and deal with you forum jocks.
I love this shard from pvp to economy, I have a million good things to say about this shard. The only thing I am mad about is wasting so much time on other shards because I listened to others opinions of this one. Although those views are very skewed.
But if you want more players you must identify the points that push people away from joining. I have recently been in other UO communities and thought I would share the things people perceive about this shard. Thus knowing this info we can plan to sway otherwise.
People THINK the pvp is non existent and the economy is screwed up. If you want more players find a way to prove that assumption is wrong

Re: Player Base
Interesting thread since it hits several aspects of gameplay on UOSA.
On growing the player base: It's difficult to start out on this server if you don't have help. Luckily, I had a few friends from OSI days established on this server that helped me grow characters, re-learn UO, and provided support that I wouldnt have received if I didnt know anyone coming here. With that in mind, I've tried to assist new players with equipment, pointers, or with whatever I could. However what I've noticed, it was fly by night. I have helped players here and there but never knew what happened to them. Did they quit, find a guild with more support/comraderie, etc? I dont know. I believe the LOS issue does pose a problem for new players who want to macro. But... if you read intro material, one must expect to get killed, PKd, etc. While this may sound kind of cheesy, a mentoring program of some some sort might be useful in retaining players and exapnded assistance those that desire it. Somewhat of a pipedream I know but feasible.
On RPers: My expereince are far and few between on UOSA. URK return has been good, Iduali are interesting however not always engaging nor contantly active... and aside from the few instances where RP Ive encountered, Ive found UOSA devoid of RP. Jupiter is the only ingame RPer Ive encountered regularly and another gentleman tending bar in Ska I once had the opportunity to speak with. I try to help customers shopping at our vendors and dont get a response half the time... the other half is usually "sup". I was very involved in PaxLair (RP town with some GM support) on Chesapeke OSI shard and unfortunately havent found much of that here.
This is a great shard and UO is a great game. I very much enjoy the shard and have met some good folks. Those interested in making this a better shard need to take the time and make it one. Rather than playing for oneself, how can you help another, organize and host an event, etc. With the people who have posted here on this thread and are interested in doing something, we should get together and organize something cool that would benefit the player base. Between us and others who want to help, we have the resources of time (somewhat), loot, and ideas to make it happen. I didnt mean this to become a soapbox but here we are... what should you, or better yet we, do about it rather than posting here?
