Why do you Pvp?

Is it for fun? For Grief? or something else?


I've been working on getting some things in order, and I couldn't help but wonder out of those that pvp. Is it merely because you want to kill something to name yourself victor? or is the fight itself Fun? I pvp for fun. Damn the end result win or lose. I pvp for the fights. Be they epic, nail biters, bad luck, w/e... It's why I will stay to fight in almost any fight. (Save for tamers, and decked out order thieves who just steal bandages to win.)

I enjoy each and every moment of almost every fight I get in because I know They can kill me or I can kill me and vice versa via mistakes. It's exciting. But, It's the same reason I don't get pissed when I die, and have no issue of posting rpv's of my deaths. Cause a good fight is hard to come by and win or lose should be shared. They're great stories to be told. I run into people who upon attack simply recall away all the time unless they have a buddy on. I've gone out hunting for oranges and run into duos who I fight none the less cause thats what I'm there to do and why I'm chaos.

Hell in a good enough fight. Where I know luck was just on my side I half the time won't loot save for what I used which in my case is pots and aids. So, why do you other pvpers fight?

I PvP to gain something: Loot

Therefore I only kill those that will require little to no effort to dispose of or those with a higher chance of actually having loot.

That's the only reason I do it...otherwise it's not that exciting.

I doubt anyone pvps for one specific reason. For me, there's a rush that comes from pvp which i can't get killing mindless monsters. The loot is also a strong motivator because i absolutely hate farming and so try to sustain my pvp based on kills rather than supporting it with farming. I also enjoy a good fight on the rare occasion that i find one, and when i do find one i will not loot and/or rez if i happen to be on the winning end.

Being a thief pvper, there's also the amusing aspect of just how angry people get. I don't really play to grief and try to avoid it when i can, but there's something hilarious about someone who tries to kill you multiple times (and dies) because you stole their 100 gold, or 20 pearl, or whatever other useless trinket. Some go so far as to get their entire guild after one lowly thief. Where people would ordinarily just let being PKed go, they don't seem to have that same mentality with a thief and i find it kinda funny.

The reason why I played UO, and again why I play it here is that you stand to have something to lose when you PVP here.

When I go out in the field, you may get 3v1 ganked, but you may not.
How even all the players here are kind of takes away from the total unknown feel to pvping.

There was something magical about attacking a random person in the field and wondering how good they were..


But I PVP here because hell - it's just fun. I don't much care if I die, because restocking a tank is easily under 2k (Unless you throw in black clothes and masks..)
I like competing, even if it means I get my ass kicked on occasion.

Hence why today my dexxer friend and I provoked a 2v4 or 5 (Not sure, there were some AFKs around)..
That's what UO is all about..

Because it offers another dimension to this game... where you have to read your enemies and where a split second of timing actually decides the scrap (if it gets that good)

I can't imagine playing this game without pvp, wtf am I going to do all day? Hunt monsters and craft stuff? It'll seem too much like just another game without an edge. It seems like you're just slaving away for numbers. Looking at this game on a brand new light if you learn the taste of both being blue and being red, you'll find out quickly yourself too that it's essential.

Whats funny is some guys take this on a brand new level and develop egos, so pvp becomes funner. Drama develops, you make friends and enemies, etc etc. Plus the loot is bigger.

Just remember its a game, try to enjoy everything including the sore losers or people on top of their pedestals, because seriously this game would be boring without them, that's how I feel anyway.

I pvp for fun, and to see if I can beat the person. I personally hate losing, but sometimes I just don't care. If I lose to someone I don't think I should lose too, that's when I really hate losing lol, but like you said, it's hit or miss, a lot of luck.

I guess one of the reasons I asked was that it seems no one enjoys the challenge like they use to back in the day. But I guess all those reasons were present the pool is just a bit smaller now a days and it shows. I've fought 3 .vs. 20 before and pulled it off for the most part back on Osi. Which was a great memory to relive from time to time. We in Bloodrock have fought one guild .vs. a server and pulled it off back on GL. Course there were good days and bad days. But all in all we all enjoyed the fights. Only time we'd ever get pissy and it'd be toward ourselves is if we lost and felt like we didn't put up a good fight.

I was just trying to get the mindset of the general populace. Which seems to be mixed rather well. Hopefully, those of you looking for fights I'll bump into a bit.
