YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
Kabal, I agre with your sentiment; but your coming to the wrong conclusion.
The issue here is still the fact that people can macro almost everything with razor; remove all environmental advantages with tree mods/light levels/etc and 3 accounts per person with multi-clienting.
Its the automation that causes people to become recluse, because they can turn to it to solve their immediate UO issues; like alot of people turn to video games or computers to get social interaction and dont go outside anymore.
Never look at such absolute ideas as a solution, but as a "flag" that means you are noticing a problem.
If Derrick can somehow, over time remove things like razor and prevent file and exe modifications, make it one game instance only and only 1 account per person; then I suppose a full shard wipe could be in order or even possible from a community point of view.
For the time being though; We can only try and effect others around us by ACTING and not TALKING. The only way to properly re-balance this shard is to go the 1account/1character route. I know its not an easy route or for most people; but its the only way to acheive that which you desire.

Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
That wouldn't fix anything. It would just make it slower to get to the same goal.rwuser wrote:

Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
There are no set goals in UO, it is simply people giving life to someone else's imagination (Garriot's world of ultima).
Any goals you make up for yourself will just make you feel more unsatisfied and keep looking for other UO experiences to complete it. When simply the purpose of it all is to let go of everything of you know and enjoy something for what it is; not for what you want to make it.
Like immersing yourself in a foreign culture sort of thing.
Its a mental vacation; to put it bluntly.

Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
That's your goal. Everyone has a goal.... Unless you are one of the few who enjoy mindless grinding--ridding macros would slow you to reaching your "mental vacation" aka goal.rwuser wrote: Its a mental vacation; to put it bluntly.
Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
The only way I would ever support a wipe is if we were limited to 1 account per person and if unattended macroing of any kind was made a bannable offense. Obviously you can't really get rid of razor, though I wish it were possible, but you can certainly do your best to make sure all players are attended while working on skills.

Catskills (03-08) - Roo Avery of VIT, T^B

If I didn't need to post here on the forums I would rag on anyone wanting the shard wiped or macroing/razor removed, I couldn't help myself honestly.
I am speechless that anyone would want to play or have time to play this shard without macroing. Megaman made great points above as well

Despite many flaws with the era and problems inherent to a free shard, there is no reason to ever get bored on UOSA. There are almost no limitations to what you can do, and when you're in a rut you can just come up with new goals and playstyles.
Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
Games, like charity; are quite simple: If you can give, give; if you can't; don't.
If you have time to give to the game, to enhance your and other people's enjoyment; then give. If you don't; don't delude yourself into thinking that macroing yourself into some sense of grandeur will add anything to the shard because it doesn't.
The game isnt that important that macroing should be needed in anyone's mind.

I agree with chum...
There are really only a few things that you would be "enabled" to do after a server wipe that you can't already do:
There are really only a few things that you would be "enabled" to do after a server wipe that you can't already do:
- certain pieces of real estate are already taken up (but houses decay on a fairly regular basis and many houses are for sale if you want real estate)
- server birth rare items--put in the world during a 1 time event in UOSA's history--cannot be had except from buying them from others
- "people have too much money": honestly, even if there was a shard wipe, it wouldn't be more than a month or two before there were already millionaires on the shard; if you know what you are doing and you play a lot, you can easily acquire such wealth.
- "get rid of GF trammy masks": this doesn't really bother me much at all
- "it would be fun to have everybody be start at the same level": I agree that it would be fun, but again, it would only be a matter of a month or so before the serious gamers were back where they were... unless macroing was restricted, which isn't that feasible for a number of reasons imo. I'll confess that a shard without macroing would have a strong draw as far as emphasizing the character development and progression of the game (which can be fun)... however, given that this game is so old, I think most of us (including me) are at the point where we know exactly where we want to go with our character development, and want to get there asap so we can focus on and enjoy other aspects of the game. I do think it would be fun for the first couple weeks or so where power gamers are pit against one another with unfinished characters... but since that wouldn't last long, I don't think it's worth it.
Most people like us, or at least they like what we do. Regardless, we appreciate all our victims, and we hope that their encounter with us is a memorable one.

One of the greatest attributes of this shard is stability, and I think a server wipe would violate that, which would turn a lot of people away.

Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
We do not have lazy staff. Staff do many functions and not just limited to policing afk macro'ers and I'll guess more count on people paging or killing off afkers their self then trying to check on EVERY player (can't show biased ) several times a day.Kabal wrote:Ya we need more/less lazy support staffCorbin wrote:The only way I would ever support a wipe is if we were limited to 1 account per person and if unattended macroing of any kind was made a bannable offense. Re: YO DERRICK WIPE IT BRO!!!
Wipe server in a nutthsell would mean people quitting (like myself without a doubt), and a lower population. Worse is new players will give up even sooner then they already do now. Like people posted above, everyone knows what they want out of this game and how to build there character. I just hit 98 taming in reality two weeks. I took a entire weekend dedicated to nothing but taming practically, I used the best spot in fire dungeon fighting others for that spot to gain taming quickly. I passed up on many social events & oppurtinies among other things I should probably have done to raise taming quickly, then you have the greifers you haft to fight off for that special spot everyone wants at fire dungeon.
Slowing down people's progression will do nothing but hinder UOSA greatly, some of us like the immersion of the game but mainly love the PvP. The faster we are able to compete in PvP the better. The strict rules & era accuracy of T2A makes PvP that much more fun and rewarding. Character progression aka afk Razor/Macroing has nothing to do with PvP, balance, economy, RPing or inflation. You are slowing character progression down which also will turn many people from even fathoming the idea of starting this shard at all.
It is asinine to even think of progressing a character from start to 7x gm manually without macros. We are not young anymore, UO is not the fresh new "oh my god!" MMO any more. Some of us are not going to sacrifice our job, our relationships, our other hobbies (our life) for this game even as much as we love it.
If anything the people established already in game should point new players in the right direction to get started on this shard so the population will increase. I tell me people to make bard and how you can gm music & provoking completely free & afk. It is very easy to direct a new player to ventrillo or IRC to help them with razor. Without Razor/Macro's Can you imagine telling someone that is new "Hey you need to sit on your computer 10 hours a day doing the same exact thing over and over again until you are gm"
... Oh I am sure he'll have a jolly gay ol time on the shard!

Agree. Uo also stands for "u own it" and make your own fun. that being said I don't think I would come back from a complete wipe. I could handle losing my fancy pixels, but my skills are what I treasure. I wouldn't have the personal time or motivation to do do it over.
