Collecting Bounty!

Post by Ulfrigg »

Is it really correct that you have to be the one delivering the kill blow to be able to collect the bounty from a pks head?

I remeber that once a pk died everyone and there mother went for the head to try and get the bounty from it.

Anyone else remeber or have some info on this?

Aside from the numerous changes to the bounty system that came about with the introduction of the reputation system (bank being cleared out, stat-loss on death, etc.) the notes from the 12/9/97 patch give us some detailed information regarding the way that the bounty system functioned. Specifically the following line is relevant to the discussion:
Bounty hunting
  • Only the bounty hunter can turn in the head.

Fair enough, but that not how it works here.
As of now only the bounty hunter with the kill blow can turn in the head.

IMO, it should work like a reverse murder count. If you do any amount of damage to the murderer, then you should be eligible to turn the head in.

The patch note Kaivan linked can go either way. We need more evidence.

I see what you're saying. Upon looking into the changes that the reputation system brought about, these are the relevant changes that occurred from the notoriety system to the reputation system:

Notoriety system:
  • Killer must have higher than neutral notoriety.
  • Killer will have head placed in backpack automatically.
  • Only that player may turn in the PK's head for a bounty.
Reputation system:
  • Any player may kill the PK.
  • Cutting up the PK's corpse results in the head being created (although I have not found information that suggests where the head shows up).
  • Any player may turn in the head from the PK. This seems to be the one major difference pointed out under the reputation system as opposed to the notoriety system.
This assessment largely comes from searching the newsgroups for this issue. Specifically, this thread has the following supporting statement:
Roy Gebers (Roy Gebers) wrote:

Yes it's true. Anyone who turns in the head can collect the bounty. So
if you want to make a statement put a 1gp bounty on the guy :)
There may be other information from HoC chats that supports or refutes this position.
