Bow life

I'm bringing an Archer up by standing on my porch and sticking what ever agros me. My Question is; dose the bow wareout from use or from contact? If I stay on the porch & never get hit will the bow stay as new? Or are there only so many shots to its life?

To my 'damage' is aquired by 'use' IE, if you use a halberd and never get hit, your 'using' it, therefore it will take 'damage'.

I could be wrong but I thought I remembered reading this some where.

PS Make a fletcher b4 you level your archer, you'll have tons of extra bows
