Few questions...few comments

Post by Tootles »

First question
1-Item ID...My smith has GM item ID so that she can ID all the things that my other characters eventually get. Why is it after I ID the items the name of what they are does not stay on them? I mean it stays on there for her but as soon as I give it back to another character it does not say anything but "magic katana" or w/e.
2-Why is taming so impossible? I remember when I played 6 years ago I loved my tamer and had a lot of fun playing her. I made a tamer yesterday and spent all day taming polar bears and such and did not even get from 50.0-60.0

Now to the comments I have. I love this shard and I love UO however the griefing is getting on my nerves. I understand on every shard there will be a few that live to grief but come on! I have been here a few weeks and have had MAYBE 3 people even speak to me let alone be nice. Hell the first 24 hours I was here I was PKed and stolen from several times. I am trying so hard to get going only to have it stolen from me in a matter of minutes and have to start over again. I do have a small house but I do not feel like I should have to do everything in my house just so I am sure I am safe. I like to be out by the bank and answer questions of new people or just watch everybody talk and such. I understand being able to be PKed or whatever when I am in a dungeon, that is my fault I should either hide better or get better at fighting back. However if I am at the bank or on my noob fisher (yes they steal from her as well) then why can people not leave me alone... I mean come on stealing fish for crying out loud!! Ok end of rant... I just want to know where the nice people are I suppose.

The 50 max is the limit on how many people are retained in the ID list. This means if you ID'd the weapon, and than 50 other people ID'd the weapon afterwards you would be removed from the list and would have to ID it again. Previously if one person ID'd the weapon than everyone would be able to tell what that weapon is forever.

Taming is difficult because it's hands down one of the best money makers available...

If everyone was running around with a tamer, it would be stupid...but to be honest a LOT of the shard's population has access to one. I really think they should make taming HARDER if anything.

Tamer's inflate the gold ratio way to much IMO...it's kind of stupid, but hey, what can you do!

To answer your question about nice kids, there are a lot of them. Most of them aren't going to come looking for you though, you have to prove your worth. I'm always willing to consider adding someone to my "circle" if they can provide a use that's too good to turn down. SO figure out what you're good at, spice it up, and market yourself.

Ok first off if tamers should be gotten rid of because of making money well then bards should be done away with as well. Anybody can make a bard and macro every bit of it without a problem Second of all I am not a whore I do not "market myself" I think you have the wrong idea of what being nice to somebody is. A nooby can not very well prove ones self now can then? What ever happened to just being nice or being a friend just to be one.........

Bards and tamers are part of the game.

Marketing yourself doesn't make you out to be a whore...let me give you an example. If you're new, and you're able to macro yourself up to say...80 magery. Offer your services in copying rune libraries for people. I would pay a handsome sum, and probably fund all materials for a rune library copier.

Again just an example.

But if you're just looking for someone to say "hi" then I'll be that person, Hi.

There. Just don't be coming here expecting free hand outs.

No one is saying do away with tamers. We're saying the skill gain is still a lot quicker than it was on OSI at the time. And yes, a bard is easy to make, but the amount of money a tamer can pump out by hitting 3-4 spawns at once with an army of dragons is greater. A bard's skills are also mostly for PVM, whereas a tamer can easily be played as both PVM and PVP.

Taming is hard, taming was hard, if you remember taming as a fast skill, then you weren't playing T2A-style UO.

As for people helping people. There's a lot of that going on, you don't even need to be in a "circle" to get help. Have you popped into IRC at all? Have you checked out the community forums hosted here? People are always helping people out on this shard.

It's very difficult to make friends outside of town.

Me and a few of my friends ran into you at destard last night I believe, and when pking, theres no time to run up to someone, ask if theyre new, and then decide whether or not to kill them. No, when we see a blue name, its pretty much auto-attack.

Never goto destard unless A) you are ready any moment to recall away, or B) youre looking for pvp.

and yea, taming is so incredibly overpowered in this ERA, compared to the pay-off, I wouldn't complain about the skill gain. Remember, there is no limit on the amount of pets a tamer can have.

Taming takes about 40 hours of played time to get around 90ish-GM.
Taming is by one of the hardest skills in the game and costs nothing more than time, so yeah, it should be difficult.
You should look up a taming guide on the guides forum b/c i dont imagine polarbears is what you should be taming.

The griefing here is not that bad. There are now incentives in place such as thieves are unable to kill you after they stole from you... there is statloss for PK's, get into a habit of using the bank regularly or having a locked box with you and you will be fine.

I like being by the bank too and conversing, but if Im hanging around the bank I bank every single item in my posession so that I don't get it stolen from.

There are nice people but hanging around brit bank with valuables is not a good way to judge the integrity of the shard.
