I say shardwipe after all mechanics are 100% accurate. All the years leading up to it would have just been Beta test phase

Although I worked my butt off to catch up (financially) to a buddy who started here over a year before me and actually played the game on the pay servers when it first came out, I fully support the total wipe idea because it will level the playing field for everyone. Those who have been here from the start and want something to 'show' for their years of dedicated playing could ask for statues or something with a description of how much wealth they amassed.BlackFoot wrote:I say shardwipe after all mechanics are 100% accurate. 1. lol @ the typical communist "level the playing field" argument. this idea is so bad, it doesn't even work in fictionWiseOne wrote:Although I worked my butt off to catch up (financially) to a buddy who started here over a year before me and actually played the game on the pay servers when it first came out, I fully support the total wipe idea because it will level the playing field for everyone. 2. what the hell is the point in wiping the shard, then giving some people statues?
oh ya and 3. you don't even play.
sweet, cutting edge idead though, brah!
Re: UOSA Silver Discussion and Idea for Change
Some form of untradeable 'Founders' commemoration would be sweet. Prominent player statues in the Event Arena(s) perhaps.
Highly unlikely to ever happen, it would be sweet to have that 'launch day' feel and the chance for server birth rares at the actual server birth.
A time when no one has the skills or runes to get to all the places they KNOW those items will be at.
Some long walking and kick ass times in the field. Just make it coincide with forced Razor settings to remove light level filters and other such trickery.
A guy can dream can't he? ;p

1. "This is a bad idea" & "It does't even work in fiction" are not valid or sound arguments.Matty wrote:

The playing field will never be level because factors like experience and skill are difficult to account for. However, allowing everyone a fresh start will give hope and motivation to anyone who is playing now but was not lucky enough to know about this shard from the beginning. The only 'harm' is that the old timers will lose all their accumulated wealth but I am think that if they really care about the game and not their 'stuff' they won't mind a wipe and might even enjoy the prospect of a fresh start.
2. The statues or trophies or any other novelty items that come to mind will only serve as a reminder/proof/reward for those who were here for a long time. I don't think these items should be used for anything else (like turning into silver or something). They should serve strictly as mementos from the 'original' shard if a wipe does occur.
3. While your observation is somewhat correct it is completely irrelevant to the present discussion. My lack of playing is due to school and work commitments but I still try to squeeze in some adventuring now and then. I just don't have the time to play regularly despite a great desire to do so.
It wasn't my idea but I support it for the reasons mentioned above. It is a sensitive topic so there is much fervent discussion on both sides of the argument. I would be happy to hear more about your ideas against a shard wipe as long as they are a bit more developed than "it doesn't work" and "it's a bad idea". Cheers brah!

to wiseone: the playing field never was level.
all a shard wipe would do is waste everyone's time and make the "playing field" even more slanted. it would favor those who have the most time on their hands @ the time of the wipe /discussion

Re: UOSA Silver Discussion and Idea for Change
There is no even playing field as long as you find Cr3w there. I would probably rebuild accounts if there was a shard wipe....But with certainty it would not solve any issues discussed in this thread.

A computer game always favors those who have more time to invest in it, the same goes for anything so thank you for pointing out the obvious. I never claimed the playing field was level. In fact if you read clearly you would see that I already mentioned that. In all honesty what I see, and I mean no insult, is a person who is attached to their pixels and the idea of losing them causes a loss of rationality and repetition of the same thing without any validity. I have been playing for over a year and have my own fair share of pixels but I am not fanatically attached to them. If they got wiped I would just start over and enjoy the new beginning, learning from my mistakes and making better characters. All I suggested was that a clean slate might entourage more people to participate as they will have a 'new' world to play in and explore as opposed to one that has been claimed and monopolized nearly to the fullest. A new start might also breath some new life into the old timers who only log in to refresh their precious castles on grass. Might I suggest you take a 'chill pill' and relax brah! It is just a game, the idea is to enjoy it as a community, not to bicker like children. Bun dem bad manMatty wrote:to wiseone: the playing field never was level.

Re: UOSA Silver Discussion and Idea for Change
I have always considered this server to be in a open beta phase in regards to all the patches that have taken place over the years. I mean I remember when house deeds were in fact stealable at all times regardless if you were blue or not. That for example had a huge impact on the economy. Remember crab shack or whatever his name was? He would just stay stealthed at the Brit carpenter shop and just steal deeds as people bought them. My point is that if the server had started with all the changes already in effect everything would be completely different.
But also if you think about what being era accurate means, OSI did have patches just the same as UOSA has. And also we have had only 1 CUB just like OSI did. So really I think in all fairness the argument could go either way.
You could say that a server wipe would nullify all the events and rules that were not era accurate to begin with. But also like most open beta games there is never a server wipe. And also it would not be fair to the people who have earned their pixels over the years.
Personally I think a server wipe would be a lot of fun. But there is also a risk of losing many of the vets that have been here on and off for years. These people have stayed while thousands of people have come and gone. If there was a server wipe I don't know if there would be another URK fort, or another UOSA Museum, or another K^A town.
Yes it would benefit a lot of people who were not here during the CUB event, which is the one event a lot of these discussions usually spiral down to. But who is to say those people would be here a year from now or not.
I do think that this is a good debate indeed, but I really don't think a server wipe would ever be an actual consideration. I would like there to be a server wipe, but there are so many pros and cons to it. But I guess bringing it all back to the topic at hand, the random silver dropping from monsters idea is just going way to far. I would gladly accept a server wipe than this idea implemented anyday.

Re: UOSA Silver Discussion and Idea for Change
shard wipe is mechanically accurate! every time the server went down it wiped 30 minutes of my time!
or its a policy decision by admin, can wipe whenever they want the mechanic was in place

you don't play anymore = you want a shard wipe. it's all about you!
Re: UOSA Silver Discussion and Idea for Change
Firstly, this is not about what I want, this is about the community and era accuracy which is the whole point of this server as I understand it. Secondly, you still fail at making a coherent argument. Me not playing because I have no time to play has no bearing on the shard wipe idea. In fact, from a pragmatic point of view I am better off keeping what I have accumulated over the last year because I had more time to play. If a shard wipe occurs I won't magically get a reduced workload at school and I won't suddenly get a bunch of free money which would allow me to work less. If a shard wipe occurs I would be one of the people most disadvantaged. So why do I support the idea, because unlike some people, I don't care about my hoard of pixels, I play to enjoy the role playing and community aspects. How about you formulate a decent argument against the idea of a shard wipe instead of trying and failing to make me seem like some self-interested pixel hoarder who cares more about 'stuff' than people. Now you can reply as per your usual "you suck, your'e wrong, your'e stupid" or you can grow up and participate in the discussion at hand by bringing forth valid reasons for your position.Matty wrote: you don't play anymore = you want a shard wipe. it's all about you!
