New to server. Anyone mind giving me the run down?

Post by Randalozzo »

Hey All,

I played UO from 98-02. I was looking around at the top 100 UO Servers and saw that this one has a 500+ player base and it is in one of the best eras of UO. So when I get off work tonight im gonna get it all setup. I'll be running around in game mostly around Moonglow, Trinsic and Vesper. If anyone wants to say Hi to an old newb I'm all for conversation.

Basically the questions I have are:

1. Can I lock, Lower and raise skills?
2. Any house spots left?
3. Do PK's hunt newbs in dungeons? ( If so cool, if not cool) Just want a heads up :).
4. Any Good guilds accepting nubs and willing to give me a more indepth rundown in game?
5. Im assuming from time period Tank mages are the way to go? However are dexxers effective at all?
6. What are the events like?
7. How is skill gain? Tired of the UO Hybrids of the world where I can be 7x in a day. No challege = No fun..
8. I looked over a few of the other threads and saw something abut new player housing, how does that work?
9. Can I spar multiple accounts to gain in fighting skills? Like I used to on OSI?
10. Since this is UO T2A are the drops and housing prices era accurate?

All I have for now :).

Thanks in advance for any questions you may answer.

1) yes
2) yes for 7x7, yes for 14x14 if you're patient, no for towers, keeps, castles
3) relentlessly
4) yes
5) yes. dexers are not as effective as you'd expect. very hard to kill though, 1-on-1.
6) there are daily sanctioned events that occur in Trammel, and also some in-game events.
7) skill gain can be very fast for most skills if you know the tricks to macroing them (most are detailed in forums). Under ideal conditions, getting to GM varies from 35 minutes for Parrying to a month for Taming, give or take.
8) follow up in those threads; these are player-run initiatives.
9) yes, but the skill gain rate is vastly reduced when it's player-vs-player. Much better off sparring with a grizzly bear in your house.
10) housing prices, yes. Drops, we hope so, but it's hard to know for sure. Let's put it this way - if we knew something was definitely wrong, it would be corrected immediately.

1.- yes you can lock skills/stats
2.- plenty of spots for small houses. Some spots are open for larger houses, but you'll have to run around quite a bit to find them. However, larger houses are sold here for little or no surcharge, so it's really no big deal.
3.- Yes, pk's will hunt anyone down. Make a recall macro and be quick to use it as soon as you see a red name on screen.
4.- There are guilds out there that help new players out. I suggest you jump on IRC and join channels #C^V and #DG. We'll try to help as much as possible without giving hand outs.
5.- Tanks are indeed the class of choice for PvP around here, but dexxers are a viable option too if well equipped and played.
6.- Many different types of events go on. From automated tournaments, to survival, to town invasions. There is a thread in the guides section about them.
7.- Skill gain is more akin to OSI than hybrid, however you can still make it a breeze if you use the guides section.
8.- Some people will co-own you to a house where you can macro and hold your stuff. Go to the new player section or contact Brules for details.
9.- It is better to train using an NPC than sparring multiple accounts.
10.- Drops are better than OSI given the lesser number of players, and house prices are also lower due to the same reason.

Hope this helped.

Of all people I figured you would know this is not true.

You just need to play it properly.
[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.

I didn't say useless, or bad. I just meant that 99% of people who come here are expecting insta-hit. Without insta-hit, it's very frustrating against people who run constantly, because you feel like you're just a glorified purple potion thrower with a bunch of wasted skill slots. As a mage you at least get a better alpha-strike.

Against people who want to stick around and fight, though, or in tournaments where they have to, I find dexers to be much more interesting from a strategic perspective. You have a lot more choices you can make regarding gear and weapons, there's some game theory involved with bandage-timing, etc.

Haven't played any other shard, except osi back in day....
A couple suggestions:

Mages are expensive for starting out. I'd make some sort of crafter to help bring in gold. Say a blacksmith. I don't put

mining on smith character, My opinion, mining is good for sword person. Builds strength. Don't forget the lovely cotton fields and

wool gathering nice gold for starting out. Also escorting to places reachable through static moongates. ( not Skara Brae at

now, it's under invasion.

Hope this helps.
