Hey Bane, long time no talk my old friend. I never really got going on this server. Unfortunately, I stuck around on Hybrid for too long and got sucked into the horrible, piss-poor PvP there till I got bored with UO again. However, I'm considering giving this server a go since I never really got anywhere the first time.

I know you posted about 8 months ago, but I'm sure a few months from now, you'll see this reply and I will have quit again lol.

JOREL, if you read this post, find me on STEAM!!!!!!

FYI - To everyone on here that played on Great Lakes at some point or another.

I thought it would be cool to keep in touch with friends and foes alike from Great Lakes. So, I started a Steam group.

http://store.steampowered.com/

At the top, right of the page next to the 'login' button, click 'Install Steam'. It's only a 1.5 MB download and it takes very little memory.

If you're already on steam, add the group 'Great Lakes UO Server Residents 1997 and Up'. If you join the group, please feel free to invite anyone you know that played on Great Lakes in the past.

Let me know if you need help and I'll be happy to assist. Send me a message or reply on this thread and i'll check it occasionally.

Great Lakes 1998-2001

I was the only player on Great Lakes to my knowledge that sounded a subtle reference to a female hygiene product (see username). :P

I was one of the original members of KR, and my fondest memories of UO were definitely pre-Third Dawn. In hindsight, and unfortunately, KR was hamstrung by too many of its founders developing feelings for each other beyond the game. I fell for Honour, Gustav fell for Kelley, and Baramos was left holding it all together, penniless and insane, still pining for Hawke who he was obviously too good for. I see Baramos stopped by! Let's get in touch, brother!

I recognize a lot of names here too...Pax Shaddom...Demon Arkanis...Azure Drake...Little Sexy...Peon(Peoff?)...Raistlin...

I still remember the first time I was Pked...running down the east road from Britain on my 56k modem (late '97?)...I can't remember what excuse it was that led so many of us newbies out of town at once. But I remember the sound loop of my death cry, my containers closing, and the death music repeating themselves over and over again as my connection crashed in a lethal lag bomb.

Finally getting DSL and fighting pks in the old days was mad fun. They were very well organized and hard to loot if you were even lucky enough to kill one. Victory was at best minor, and always hard fought, but always exciting and worth it! It was simple in the old days...gating in and catching the grey pks in the act was all it took. Having dedicated anti-pks to hunt with always made the difference...Slade, Rockafella or Evilice for examples.

Honour, Cabbot, Keldon Greenleaf, Bree Trueflight, Abraxxus of Hell, Furmanator, Greenwood (the great?), all my other KR slackers Dnah Shtaed, Damned If I Know, Saxgod, BAIN, Ren, kilik, blacksmith, jack the killer, (the hider), Iceman, I can go on and on so my memory will stop here.

Someone above asked....Ronald McDonald was an in-game character and a well-known pk...red haired and well hated.

Congrats on UOSA too! The best of times in the UO lifeline were lived in the Second Age! Great to see you guys!

Woo, I was on GL from 1997 - 2000.
I, too, will follow suit and keep my character name(s) a secret in an attempt to avoid drama/grief, but I was a (slightly) well-known T-Hunter. Huzzah!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Time for all us old Great Lakers to do something in game......

Would love to be able to challenge another shard group in some PvP. The old GL vs. Chessy debate was always interesting.

Man look at all these old GL names, it brings back some awesome memories! My family (dad, uncles, cousins) all played GL and were probably best known for running the Lazy Lizard tower/lounge in the desert by Compassion. Some of my old chars are:

Xeen - tank mage
Tank Girl - dex/archer/fencer
Atilla - swds/dex/jacker
Sebastian - dex/macer
Serpico - dexxer

I had a few epic battles with Permafrost and his crew, any of those guys still around? I wish I could remember some more names but Ho Chi Minh, Peon, Bone Dancer and of course SiN are all blasts from the past :)

I played UO from around 98 till at least 04 or so. I've dabbled a few times since then but could never really get back into it. Anyway, I was a Farland.

Artemis Farland
Paul Farland
GZA Farland
Cattie Brie

I can't remember my last character off the top of my head. I recognize a lot of names in this thread. It should be fun to get wrecked by you guys again.

I recognize many of the names in this thread. I played GL for a few years... until that AoS garbage.

Delphi- Mage
Ashley Malagant- Dexxer
Lucent Malagant- Med Warrior
Karlton Malagant- Lumberjack
Kannibal- Mule

Having a hell of a good time since I found this server a couple weeks ago. Wish I had stumbled across it sooner.

I was TheTyke - A non-mage GM Tamer who used to have dragon formations at the banks and sell them before the Animal Lore requirement came in. :) Used to have a house near Kazola's and hang out there occasionally until I got into a row with some of my neighbors. :D I left at Felucca/Trammel split after they made my back yard into a graveyard, and my house collapsed due to limited internet access.

But playing other MMOs since then, I was always telling my friends UO was the pinnacle of the genre, and complaining how UO had far more features (such as ships, housing, mix & match skills) despite being the first of its type. Finally after many years, I've returned! Sure is a whole new experience now that I'm not on dialup!

Hi Great Lakes,

I used to play in 99-01 was great fun. I never really join any of the big guilds. A lot of names pop up (Peon and Q-tip) that make me remember all the fun i had .

I spent most of my time in Wind and Deceit in those days farming. My name was nymus mage/tamer.

I used to be in a small guild but we had lots of fun. I don't remember the name :(
The only one i remember at the moment is Mystra

Its great to see old names pop up again :P
