I was tossing around the idea of having a sea battle with multiple teams.
As a rough draft, each team would launch a boat. At a set time of day for an evening all teams would board their boats and set off into the sea. Each team would scour the high seas for the other teams, do battle with, and eliminate them. The winning team is the last remaining boat.
Some basic rules, though more could be hashed out if there is interest:
1. Boats must be left unlocked. Thus you can board enemy boats.
2. Boat keys must be on the captain. Captured boats must go in the hold. Winner takes all boats.
3. Each boat/team would have a ghost on it to ensure the team is following rules.
4. In the event that non-participants (or disqualified participants) come upon a naval battle. All participates must immediately cease combat and aid each other to destroy the non-participants. Once the threat is gone...the participants must sail in opposite directions for 10 seconds, then original rules reapply.
5. No recalling, no gating, no pets (unless they are summoned). All participants must remaining on their boat (or an enemies boat). Thus any needed supplies should be in your hold or on your team.
Thoughts? Interest? To be determined would be a team max number, if any. It may be best to allow unlimited size teams but require each X number of people to have their own boat. Otherwise people would just form multiple teams and 'work together'. The other issue is, of course, griefers. But in a pvp contest the griefers would fit right in.
As with many of my event ideas, its a risk vs reward. So you could bring all vanquishing bows but if your team loses you'd lose them. In theory, there'd be some donated prize for the winning team (in addition to all loot they acquire). Disconnects may be an issue if it throws ya to shore.
Interest in a battle on the high seas?

I see one problem with your proposal.
You can't dry dock ships if there are ghosts on board. So the ability to take ships from the defeated is not going to be there, unless you were to make a rule that defeated crews had to disembark.

People would just show up with dragon turrets..

Not if this is done correctly. Sounds like this would be a gentleman's game. All this talk in trash talk about 2v2's, why not make it a 2v2 high sea battle. The chances of getting griefed when you are out in the middle of the ocean are pretty darn low, just don't tell the world where you are taking off. Sounds like a blast.Boondock_Saint wrote:People would just show up with dragon turrets..

Good point in regards to ghosts. I guess maybe boats won't get dry docked then. Its not a huge deal, would just be nice.
As for dragon turrets. COuld always throw a rule that says if someone brings a dragon turret then all participants go and eliminate it. Its not like they could throw unlimited turrets at the event. Alternatively, as much as id hate to require GM backing, given that dragon turrets are not era accurate there could be a rule that states that dragon turrets in this event will have all dragons forcibly killed.
Or...ill just get people to set up at all of the stables ready to buy up slots. That way when someone tries to pull pets to grief they lose their stable slots. And if they manage their dragons in a tower and/or tame then in advance, then at least they've put forth effort.

I like this idea. Granted everyone participating is there to actually participate and not be a pain in the arse.

Ghosts, when monitoring a defeated vessel, can move on to the victor's boat until such time as they are defeated or they win the event.
You can count on Ascalon to be involved. I've got the boat to spare and I'd love to captain a vessel in such an affair!
