New player

Post by dwolf »

Hello, I just joined the shard and haven't played UO in a while. Just wanted some general questions answered such as where do most people hang out and what's a quick way to make money. Or more specifically, what's the most sensible way to get started with a warrior character? Been a while... played atlantic 5 or 6 years ago.

Thanks! Shard looks great.

If you are set on a warrior, I would just spend most of the day at Jhelom graveyard as it is seconds away from the safety of the town/guardzone and the spawn is generally very easy, bar the occasional lich which you can guard whack. Since magic is a MUST even for warriors (unless you are one hardcore mother f-in' role player) start with 49 magery and 50 resisting spells. 1 in whichever you want based on the starting equipment (http://wiki.uosecondage.com/Starting_Equipment).

If you need a buddy to watch out for you while you are raising fighting just let me know when you are usually online and I will have a character near by in case you need any help (heal/resurrection/general help). PM is the best way to reach me. Welcome!

Welcome to the shard.

A lot of people hang out in Britain, at the bank and graveyard, you'll typically always find people there.

There are lots of ways to make money as a newb. Just beating on skeletons, etc is the most direct and fun, but probably least effective method. Mining, lumberjacking and bowyering are easy ways for a noob to make money, but are tedious (sell ingots and wood to players, bows to npcs). A bard is a quick character to make, but you'll need a little bit of gold for training magery.

Thanks for the tips guys. Will hang out at the cemetery for a while to start. Also wondering if the lumberjacking bonus exists on this shard with a swordsman and if it's even worth it. I remember that being pretty fun way back in the day.

No LJ bonus that was UO:R.

I suggest you hang out at Brit GY - that way you will learn all of the names and pvp styles of the local pkers.

Take 50 magery and 49 healing. One of the biggest misconceptions is starting with 50 resist, when really, it's quite simple and cheap to get to 55.

fire field
[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.

Yes, how could I forget.

I remember having a good macro for that and the other spells at higher levels.

Now that I think about it, there is a good way to raise magery and resist at the same time by casting spells on yourself but I can't find the link that tells you which spell at which skill level. Anyone?

Also, first thing to do is definitely raise healing before running around in a fire field. You can raise fast after 60 by casting poison on yourself or another character and curing them. (Healing others takes 5 seconds versus 10 when healing yourself, curing poison is 6 and 12 respectively if I am not mistaken). I was so poor back when I was training healing on my first character I just went on fire island and let myself get poisoned on purpose by all the serpents. Not a bad way to raise fighting skills and get some moolah in the process by the way. To raise from 80 to 100 is the easiest. Keep resurrecting a dead character but not accepting it with the dead one.

If you need any basic supplies let me know.

PS

If you ever make a mage later, make sure you raise meditation together with magery and resisting otherwise it gets way harder later.

Thanks again guys. Final question is why do I need 50 magery? Is it important to have that on this shard? I only really would use it for recall.

edit: Are any guilds recruiting? Might make it easier to get into the shard. Thanks

I find this game heavily leaning towards magic so I recommend GM'ing magery even on warriors, it just makes life easier (recall, gate, insta cure/heal, etc.). Check the guilds forum for information on recruiting (viewforum.php?f=24).
