Anyone wanna get me up to speed?

Post by Cassius »

So I played LS from '98 to '04 religiously, then on and off for a few years, then just logged in for nostalgia from time to time up until about 2 months ago when I had to switch debit cards and realized it was time to say goodbye.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what's the haps on this shard?
I was always very fond of my thief, and also of my tank mage, but I can't really remember viable templates from T2A. I've perused the forums and checked up on a few things and began macroing up my thief as well as a PVM Dex. My brother is brand new to the game, and after playing WoW for a few years with him, I wanted to show him the game that I compare every game I play to now.

I understand from the old days that certain areas are going to be controlled by guilds, blue or red.
I realize I will be PK'd from time to time, and as strange as it sounds can't wait, because that was one of the things that made this game more exciting than any others.

Is there anywhere in these forums that shows what guilds or groups control certain areas?
Are the old hotspots for pvp still hot here? (Yew, XR, Bucs, etc)
Are there large red/pvm guilds or just smaller clusters?
Alliances?

Sorry for the mass of text, it's just been a long time and though I plan on jumping in headfirst, would just kinda like to know the territories so I don't step on any feet out of the gate. Cheers. :)

I remember you. Trinny used to be your stomping grounds too.

I used to roll with Grom the Scatman, Michael Rigoni, Ryan. Then when things changed with them I rolled with Ziac, Guido, and that crew.

The server from what I can tell is very close to being exactly how T2A was on OSI. As far as being PKed it's gonna happen quite a bit more then you remember. If you go to duneons its def gonna happen, which as you know is always good times. There are alot of people here that help out the new players.

Server population is quite nice. I am personally re-addicted to the game. It has been a blst. I just rejoined UO myself a week ago. Just read thr fourms for good deals on housing, resources, etc... Always find some good deals on here. Other then that, welcome back. Look forward to seeing you around.

I just joined about 2 weeks ago, also played on LS for many years.

From what I can tell the server is pretty great overall in terms of activity. Only downside is that with a smaller population the chances of getting PK'd any time you go anywhere worth going is much higher than usual, as it's all some people have to do for fun other than events and since there is much less risk in PKing with less blues swarming dungeons for PvE.

Info on player run towns/ areas:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30850&hilit=guild+guide

As far as I know there is no official 'red town' but staying out of popular dungeons is not going to save you from PKs. I sometimes meet them in random places near some of my houses or just wondering around the map. And I totally agree with you that their existence on this shard makes it so much more exciting and fun.

Let me know if you need a safe place to macro I have empty houses I can let you use. Also, if you need help starting up I would be happy to hook you up with whatever stuff you think you need.

Hell yeah man, I remember all those guys, good times. I started my thief in Trinny just for that. Murdering escorts at the moment for some quick change.

As for getting PK'd in dungeons, I wasn't really much of a dungeon runner, though I did hang out in dungeons on my thief

And Wiseone, I'll def take you up on that offer, I got my brother playing with me, who has no UO experience, wanted to show him what a real MMO was. We're def looking for a place to macro in safety, as buying a guildstone/house is a little out of my financial bounds atm. Looking forward to seeing you guys online.

Also safety comes in numbers. Lots of people here will hunt with you. Me included when I'm not actively training my characters.

Well that was fast. Just last week you were whining about getting pked all the time and now you've joined the party...
<@BoomlandJenkins> I got home, got on UO right away and I knew something was up before I even made it to the spawner, because there were 35+ in the Justice woods and not one person was PKing one another.

The PKs still keep me from going hunting alone for the most part. I was simply passing along what was passed onto me.
