Failing like crazy with provo
Failing like crazy with provo
I know the patch was supposed to make it harder for us to provoke. But even at 98.1 I am failing to provoke like crazy. Way more than I would expect to at that skill level. Am I just being critical or does anyone else feel the same way?

Re: Failing like crazy with provo
The overall failure rate hasn't changed, only the possible inablilty to provo if they are attacking you, which is an entirely different message.
How much of a difference are you seeing?

Re: Failing like crazy with provo
Thats what it is. They are already attacking me when I try to provoke and I get "verbal taunts would be better" or something. So that makes since, cause otherwise it seems ok. Thanks Derrick.

I see yea, that was in the patch notes a couple weeks ago. It's based on their intelligence. There's a new provo guide since then in the Guides section too.

Hey derrick was curious if its accurate or something u did to balance bards with other pvm skills?

There's very little specific info on Provocation, Stratics didn't even have a guide on provo during the era. I gathered what I could from old posts. It was clear that it was hard to provo creatures that were attacking you.Khronus wrote:Hey derrick was curious if its accurate or something u did to balance bards with other pvm skills?
Re: Failing like crazy with provo
its still very useful anyways, if ur a mage u just cast invisibility by the creatures and provoke them before they arrack u... for warriors is a little harder cause they would need hiding skill and run away to hide making it harder to run back provoke without being attacked.
bards are more balanced now in my opinion...

Re: Failing like crazy with provo
I see nothing wrong with the way barding is, although I do recall it being difficulty based on OSI, but I see no reason to change it now..
Re: Failing like crazy with provo
i actually remember my bard from back then. Cant recall it was this hard to provo if you were attacked tho. Im at 100 provo and failing 30-40% of the times i try, so imho provo isnt that useful anymore.. Nowadays i usually throw up a few EV's and BS and they do the job but is a bit more expensive =)

Re: Failing like crazy with provo
its really still the same all you need to do is invis or use peace and you won't get the 'taunt' message..
Re: Failing like crazy with provo
Well after really paying attention for a while I can say that I am successful almost all of the time when not being attacked. When I am being attacked however I am successful none of the time.

Re: Failing like crazy with provo
Aggro seems to be wierd in UO. Sometimes I'll stand next to a mob and it won't attack me for anywhere between 5-10 seconds...Other times I'll be off screen and still aggro.
If you're a mage-bard, meaning you can use Invisibility and Greater Heal/Cure on yourself, what's the best filler for this build? My toon's got this:
Provo
Music
Resist
Mage
Meditate
Eval
I've been working my hiding up while I'm AFK and this thread made me realize how redundant it would be to have that skill.
Peacemaking seems pretty useless...Would GM wrestling alone reduce spell casting interruptions, or do I need tactics on top of that?
Cheers,
Vin

At least change the angle so people can't see where my characters are. Fire/IPBan anyone who plays my characters too plz. KThxBai.
Re: Failing like crazy with provo
The minimum chance of provoing when they are on you is 10%, that applies for all creatures with greater than 100 int. Lower ones are easy. Try the ogre lords...ecetres wrote:Well after really paying attention for a while I can say that I am successful almost all of the time when not being attacked. Hiding works well because it gets you out of trouble without having to worry about cast time or interruptions. I think stealth would be a good addition, since the aggro thing, you can sneak up to the dragons and then provo. Otherwise it is very difficult to provo dragons in despise. I cant do it anyway, and they seem to be the best farming spot for provokers.
