Newbie keys?

Someone is selling a 'newbie key' for 150k.

I don't know anything about these, can anyone answer these answers:

1. Is that price fair
2. How do they work, so I can make my house key a newbie key is that right?
3. How can I be sure I'm not getting scammed? Is there a way to tell before buying if it's the real thing.

1) That is hard to say, an item is worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it.

2) When you copy a house key onto a newbie key that newbie key will always stay on you (in your inventory) even when you die, nor can it be stolen . This is convenient if you are frequently going into your house because it auto unlocks and locks the doors when you go through and you don't need to have a set of keys locked down on your front steps and double click them to unlock and then again to re-lock.

3) Make sure you record the transaction on the forums. For example:

New thread - "Buying newbie key from soandso"
Thread body - "soanso is selling me a blank newbie key for the price of x gold/deed/etc."

Then if the key turns out to be a regular blank key or a key renamed to [blank] key and not a newbie blank key then that person will be banned.

A blank key would appear as "a [Blank] key" if I am not mistaken. However, anyone can rename a regular key by double-clicking on it so be careful especially if it is on a vendor.

...from the forums, assuming you can prove their guilt, and that is the worst case scenario, who knows if anything will happen at all.

Also: This form of forum-using trammelry is pathetic, and not at all in agreeance with the spirit of T2A.

I suppose one can never be truly safe but buying from reputable players would give the purchaser at least some security as few people would want to tarnish a good reputation over such a small matter.

Use a broker, they can verify its newbied by either trying to steal it or killing themselves


itll be clearly marked blank, and to verify you can double click it and itll say "select a key to copy" or something like that.

I would suggest using a GM tinker to copy the keys, if it fails you destroy the key


I wouldn't pay over 50k for one personally, just because its for your convenience and not really security (should have tables or something after the door anyway)

Since this is brought up, lemme' just ask something. Can a newbied (or any blank?) key only be used once for one lock, or can it be used later to copy another key instead? I mean like overwrite the key.

Also - If you have a newbie key to a house in your pack and you redeed another house you will lose the newbie key. I learnt that first hand

So in other words, if one has a newbied key tied to a house and then decides to move, that key becomes useless. Good to know! ;)

So sayeth the well known scammer...
We used outlets such as uomarket/tradespot and stratics for trading in T2A. People who were caught scamming using uomarket/Tradespot were banned from there too, so your argument of "trammelry" is bogus.

Oh and don't drink and change house names, you might accidently press change house keys and make your newbie key useless forever...

is there a difference between a copper newbie key and a gold newbie key? i too am looking for one.
