Stealing large quantities of X
I tried to steal 2900 bandages from someone, it said " You could not carry this item ".
Is this accurate? Shouldn't I steal as much as I can?

Re: Stealing large quantities of X
How many times did you try to steal? Also, what was your characters load? xxx of xxx stones?
Re: Stealing large quantities of X
You should be able to steal (up to) your maximum allowed amount from the stack..
Would be the same as trying to steal 400 gold from a pile of 2500..
Seems like it is taking the items full weight into consideration to steal when it should only take the amount stolen, in weight.
Best guess on this..

[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.

Re: Stealing large quantities of X
My best guess is that when it randomly rolled the number of bandages for him to attempt to steal that it was too many. This could either be that the upper random value is over his weight, or perhaps it takes into account max weight and since he already had stuff in his backpack he went over.Sandro wrote:You should be able to steal (up to) your maximum allowed amount from the stack..

In the demo there are two instances where this particular message will be received. The first is in the event of an item that cannot be moved a all. The second is when you attempt to steal an item that has a weight that exceeds your maximum carrying capacity. Both of these checks happen before any actual stealing checks happen and will prevent you from attempting to steal the item at all.

So the OP either clicked on the wrong item in the pack, or the game is trying to steal more than 10 stones of items from a stack (which is NEA imo).Kaivan wrote:In the demo there are two instances where this particular message will be received. Re: Stealing large quantities of X
It's not a matter of attempting to check for a theft on an item that's greater than 10 stones. The issue is that in the demo it takes the whole weight of the item into account before attempting to let you steal a part of it.
To elaborate, suppose that a thief is carrying 300 stones worth of items. While carrying that 300 stones, the thief attempts to steal from a stack of bandages with a total weight of 200 stones. In this scenario, before setting up the 10 stone weight limit to evaluate the success of the theft, the demo will check to see if you can carry the entire item. Since there is a hard maximum of 428 stones that can be carried by any person, any check to see if you can hold the total weight of 500 stones (300 from before the theft and 200 from after) will fail, automatically failing the theft before it's even attempted.
That's whats preventing the attempt from being made.

There is a workaround. Kill the person carrying 300 stones of bandages. Presumably they don't have much recourse.

This and why are you so heavy when trying to steal populus?Mikel123 wrote:There is a workaround. Kill the person carrying 300 stones of bandages. Presumably they don't have much recourse.
Anyone carrying any stacked item so heavy that it will put you overweight on a stealth mage thief is likely to be killable without much effort, likely afk. You dont strike me as the towny dexer type but even if you are, just get them to attack you by looking like an easy target for mass loot then pwn em. this is also as i remember it in era
doesnt seem like this has many practical limitations, other than you couldnt steal a massive stack of bandages which led to this calmly phrased rage post.

Made more sense than your bunchie.
Just don't try to steal so many bandaids at once and carry less items. That's the gist.

Can't argue with that.Panthor the Hated wrote:Made more sense than your bunchie.

Re: Stealing large quantities of X
Interesting, but seems rather counter intuitive for the game to check to see if you can hold the whole stack when you can only steal 10 stones per attempt.
