Training Archery
Training Archery
I have been looking through the forums, and I have found a lot of ways to GM archery. Some say it takes 5k arrows to gm, some say it takes 15k arrows to gm.
I was wondering, whats the cheapest way to GM archery (arrow wise). What should I be attacking?

Re: Training Archery
Some use order guards, some use hired fighters or paladins, I've always used blade spirits. I've heard proponents of each claim they are best. For me, blade spirits USED to take 5k - 6k arrows. At some point last year I believe a patch changed the rate at which arrows fell after missed shots. Now it seems to take 7k - 8k. Disadvantage to this method of course is regs used to cast BS. I always use a second character macroing casting it to a safe spot while my archer who was physically closer auto defends. Hopefully others can speak on the other methods.

Re: Training Archery
I GMed mine using a polar bear. Tamed one, brought it into a house, and had a second acct vet healing the bear. It took me around 5k arrows, but that was also a way back.

Re: Training Archery
Hrm... I dont mind the blade spirits idea. I am just wondering if anyone has GMed archery recently, and how many arrows it took them. I have 10k arrows ready to go, but I was hoping I wouldnt have to use them all =\
Re: Training Archery
I'm thinking you should need around 7k, tops.

Re: Training Archery
For both ways? Because I am leaning more towards the blade spirit idea because I dont have a tamer or vet
Re: Training Archery
No clue on the BS way, but according to applejack, that seems to be an adequate number.

Re: Training Archery
Yeah 10k should be plenty fine for blade spirits. Are you starting at 50 archery or 30? Either way will probably be good.

Re: Training Archery
I am starting at 30 archery skill. I wouldnt like to use up all of the arrows, because I was hoping that the 10k would fund 2 archers. Do tactics usually GM along with archery pretty fast?
Re: Training Archery
Tactics usually lags a bit, but if your char will have another fghting skill, you can GM tactics while GMing that skill...otherwise, you will need more arrows.

Re: Training Archery
I guess my last question is, is the difference between gaining on a polar bear/blade spirits significantly better than a paladin?
Re: Training Archery
I am also building an archer right now, I think a good idea is to use another character (or 2). Use one as the target and have him healing himself while the third character also heals the target. This was you can increase magic, healing or both on the two non-aggressive characters and you can always use macros so the characters don't actually have more than a small amount of bandages or reagents on them in case they accidently die.

Re: Training Archery
Combat skill gains aren't linked to the difficulty of the creature here. I've Gmed wrestling off a ratbluebaroo wrote:I guess my last question is, is the difference between gaining on a polar bear/blade spirits significantly better than a paladin?

The only time difference will be how quickly targets die/need recasting etc.
Edit for post appearing - Wiseone, I'm pretty sure skill gains are slowed right down when fighting/sparring other player characters. Stands to reason that would include shooting at them too?
Re: Training Archery
If I understood correctly when my friend explained it, when training with other characters they need to be of similar skills and stats to gain properly. I am still working out the details but I do remember archery rising when I tried it once, but I had difficulty keeping the target alive. Will post here again once I have it going. Am open to other methods if anyone has any
