Peacemaking

Post by HamburgerPimp »

First things first, Second Age is my first Ultima Online experience, so I'm a bit of a "newb" when it comes to.... pretty much everything in Ultima Online.

With that out of the way, I've been raising Peacemaking for my Tamer. I'm almost GM, and I'm just now realizing its only stopping creatures from attacking for a couple of seconds. Does the calm time improve at all, or will this skill be pretty much useless for me trying to use it AND taming at the same time? (ie. Peace a dragon, then attempt to tame)

Peacemaking makes everything npc/player around you stop attacking whatever it is currently fighting. The only thing that peacemaking improves due to higher skill is the success rate. The effect always will be the same regardless of how high the skill gets. Whatever the normal time it takes something to attack you is how long it will take for it to re-attack after a successful peacemake.

Does peacemaking force an 'all kill' summon or pet to stop fighting, forcing another all kill command to get them to continue?

I know on another shard it did and us orcs had a valuable peace warrior. People would charge in with dragons and summons and run away. Then they come back to see if we are all dead and their pets are just standing around. Lol

It should work that way on here. Do you happen to know if it does not? Peacemaking should make everything stop attacking during a successful use of the skill no matter what the situation is. This includes summons and pets that were told to attack something.

Hamburger, its my opinion that peacemaking (in its current form) is not worth 100 points used in your skill cap.

It is kind of a broken skill as OSi didnt get around to fixing it to post t2a.

I could see it being a PvP skill for an orc as ronk mentioned but on a dungneon crawler i believe it is basically worthless.

Someone correct me if im wrong.

It depends on the situation Hoots. It can be a life saver, but the majority of the time it isn't useful at all. For example, if you get surrounded by a zerg of vermin you could use it and teleport/recall etc... I personally would never waste the 100 points unless there was absolutely nothing else more useful.

Definitely not worth 100 points if I can't double it up with taming. I'll just get a friend to help me out instead.

On another note, I wonder what I should replace it with....
The original setup I was going for was Tamer/Mage:

Animal Lore
Animal Taming
Evaluating Intelligence
Magery
Meditation
Resisting Spells
Wrestling

But then I decided to become a Tamer/Bard:

Animal Lore
Animal Taming
Magery
Musicianship
Peacemaking
Provocation
Veterinary

Now that Peacemaking is obviously a waste, I'm not sure what to go with. Any suggestions?

Faust...I have no experience with peace making on this server. It is probably working as intended.

As for the template...drop peace, take resist. Seems logical.

I was thinking that might be a good choice, considering I want to tame dragons...
Unfortunately my resist is only at 60 something =(
Better start raising more money for regs.......
Thanks for the input everyone.

Well hey, if you aren't GM mage ill gladly work my mage up using your regs and casting on you if you want. I got 50ish healing and like zero eval

Thanks for the offer, but I'm already at 98.5 Magery. Since this was my first character I raised most of my magery actually hunting and whatnot, so resist fell very far behind.

Er, I meant if you are GM mage. Lol. In other words...if you aren't gonna gain magery off the regs ill do the casting so I gain magery and you gain resist ^_^ Plus with my 50 healing ill be able to use my bandages to keep you healed and my low eval means the spells will do minimum damage.

Hamburger,

Honestly to be a valid tamer or atleast use your pets to their full potential. Vet is a good skill to have. It's cheaper than healing with greater heal and a lot more effective. Unless you plan to hunt with 8+ dragons and replace them often.
