REPORTED ISSUE:
NPC speech heard through house walls

ISSUE DETAILS:
NPC speech can be heard through the walls of a house (player speech cannot be heard).
Please see attached screenshot. In the Large Patio house you can see Josie, a hired NPC (fighter?). Her speech is heard by Zelek Uther in the Small Stone and Plaster house.

ENVIRONMENT DETAILS:
Windows 7 (32 bit), 3GB RAM, UO Client: Customized 5.0.8.3 (Patch 204), Razor v1.0.12

STEPS TO RECREATE:
The above example requires two houses. Stand in house 2, while someone in house 1 makes an NPC say something (e.g. by dropping an object on them).

EXPECTED RESULTS:
NPC speech should not be heard through house walls.

I started working on this, but suddenly had some doubt.

Hasn't it been the case that you've always been able to see your balance from outside the bank?
I think this needs some more looking into, I'm not sure what LOS should applie to and what it should not for NPC's; take the emotes from "rummaging" as well; I think there may be either be some special cases, or that NPC's may be immune from speech LOS.

Oh yes, you're right! I didn't think of the wider consequences... I saw this while in my small home and thought it was strange at the time.

I played T2A in 1999, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing bank balances spoken by an NPC in the bank, while I was standing outside the bank. (I know memory doesn't count as a citation...)

Perhaps someone can verify that this is Era Accurate, and therefore is already operating as intended?

I vote don't change it (unless evidence is brought to the contrary).

I'm more wondering why you have the ability to drop a book on the NPC from that far away...

I'm not sure which of those characters in the Patio dropped the "water trough (east)" deed on the NPC... but I think it may have been the one on the Llama?

Oh, my mistake, for some reason I thought you had dropped the deed onto the NPC

Nah, I was chillin' in my small house, spinning wool on my loom (my alt char in brown robe was cutting bandages)... and I got surprised to see someone "talking" from next door!

We should be able to hunt down the info in the demo and/or EA's current shards; in the looking at this that I did do tonight I feel that this mechanic does need attention and tightening up so I'm very glad this question was raised. Thanks
