Returning original/T2A player
Returning original/T2A player
Hi all - This seems to be an interesting community you have going here. I played UO from the time of release up through beta testing T2A. I have been playing MMO's ever since trying to replicate that experience, but the truth of the matter is that I cannot simply because I can't find a game with the same mechanics ever since the success of the WoW model put all MMO's on rails.
Anyway -- getting to the point --- I created a character on your shard, with little knowledge retained from when I played the original back in my teenage years. I promptly decided I was going to mine until my strength went up so I ran to the nearby mountains to do so. I was within minutes killed by three other players and picked clean. I tried again later on and had a similar experience. Part of the reason I loved UO so much was because that danger existed. At the same time, I'm having a hell of a time getting started in this game again because it seems like the shard is crawling with PKs.
Is there a guide out there that's specific to the shard to help me get a new character on his feet without being killed and looted constantly?

Re: Returning original/T2A player
I started out playing here by mining and then sold the ingots to provide a house/nest egg for the rest of my characters. I had the most luck mining in Delucia, since it's all in the guard zone. There is a bit of competition there from other miners, but I GMed Mining there in short order and had about 13k iron ingots and several thousand colored ingots as well. I haven't tried mining there myself, but a lot of people like to mine in Cove for the same reason. If you were trying to mine near Brit, especially north of the city, that's likely the reason for the high number of PKs.
Re: Returning original/T2A player
For some reason I recall the original UO client giving me a choice of starting cities. when i rolled my character over the weekend, I think I got dropped in Vesper or somewhere thereabouts. Is there a way to choose or do I need to make a run for it?

You can mine hidden.

Chose advanced on character creation then you get to pick the city.Gorgrim wrote:For some reason I recall the original UO client giving me a choice of starting cities. when i rolled my character over the weekend, I think I got dropped in Vesper or somewhere thereabouts. I gotta tell ya -- this is an inspiring community. I didn't know something like this still existed until now. I already have a PM from someone inviting me to a guild and you all have given me some good guidance. I'm going to give it another shot tonight -- of course I've created 3 characters trying to regain what I lost when I was PK'ed so I'm running out of slots.
I have to wait 5 days to delete them.
I did use the advanced creation mostly because I didn't want those pre-made templates (I think they're silly), but for some reason I must have missed the starting city prompt. I guess my best bet is going to be to find a guild with the "good guys" so I can get on my feet and start taking out some PKs.

Welcome to UOSA.
I'm especially gratified to see a "crap but I get PKed alot; I'm still glad to be here" style of post: this forum suffers the expected periodic inundations of beginner-rage ... It's refreshing to hear from someone who's had some rough luck starting out, but has nevertheless rolled under the punches, and sprung right back up to carry on.
Proportionately, there likely is a higher population of PKers here, but this is due to a total population that is much smaller than existed on OSI in-era: it's not too hard to avoid PKs by avoiding the hotspots; one can also be a little more adventurous if one can play outside of shard prime-time.
There are a lot of people in this community who are happy to help, and there are new-player-friendly guilds to marry to almost any playstyle: look around the forums, ask questions in IRC, etc.; I'm confident you'll be able to find what you need.

Edit: corrected a typo.

Welcome
I started out farming brit sewers for a day or two then moved up to killing forest spawn between brit and vesper. Had a house in a week. Once you got a house you're golden.

When you see the map in char creation that map is interactive and will let you change your starting city.

In case you were unaware, you are allowed to have 3 accounts on UOSA, so don't feel like you need to be stingy with your character slots. Check out the rules on the UOSA main page if you haven't already. http://www.uosecondage.com/RulesGorgrim wrote:of course I've created 3 characters trying to regain what I lost when I was PK'ed so I'm running out of slots.I have to wait 5 days to delete them.
I made most of my start up money by mining/blacksmithing around Minoc, but lumberjacking/bowcraft is also quite profitable with minimal risk. Any questions, be sure to get on our IRC channel and don't hesitate to ask.
And of course, welcome to the shard!

Re: Returning original/T2A player
Welcome, i still feel like i am pretty new to the shard but i love it. I also started out mining to make money for a house. i mined for a week around Minoc - sold the ingots got a house and everything was smooth sailing from there. Feel free to pm me or look for me in irc if you need anything or advice on anything. While ive only been here for a few months i still do not know many people on the shard and would be happy to help.

Re: Returning original/T2A player
I'm relatively new myself, my account isn't a month old yet. However, I've had several run-ins with PKs and thieves and it doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. My first time playing UO was after Trammel was released, so Felucca is scary to me, but I'm in good hopes. I enjoy playing T2A, even if my carebear ass gets PKed. I just don't keep anything important on me.
Two of my friends an I saved up and got a house near Skara Brea, it's been pretty smooth since we got it.
