Thanks for the memories guys

Post by Frosty-Hocus »

I loved UO T2A and spent countless hours enjoying the game. Then came the OSI patches and the new expansions, and well off I went. I just wanted to say thanks for the memories of a game I so thoroghly enjoyed. Alas, however, today I was reminded of the part I didn't enjoy. Within the span of 3 minutes my newbie little warrior, with his first and last set of GM crafted armor and weapon, was PK'd 2 times just trying to walk into Shame. The first time, as soon as I exited to test out the Nightsight potion issue, I was dead in under a second. Don't know how the targeted me so fast or cast on me so fast, but they were gracious enough to leave my armor and weapon on my corpse. After I rezzed and returned, well, the next PK wasn't so nice. Then I realized that my runebook wasn't blessed and enjoyed that long run back to Yew. Ah well, it was a fun 48 hours of macroing, killing skeletons and zombies and listening to old OSI tunes that brought back a world of good memories. But, having to start over and be at the mercy of players with significantly advanced characters with significantly more resources just isn't as much fun now as it was 10 years ago, so I'm off to look for a non-PVP free shard if I can find one. Thanks again for the memories guys. Nice job on your emulator.

Perhaps you should attempt to put the word out here on forums or IRC for assistance in getting started before quiting right away. There are many people who spend much of their time and resources helping new players get started.

Here is a post on an example:

LoL this server isn't that difficult.....you don't even have to PvM to get filthy rich quickly. Hang around a bit longer next time and ask and people will be glad to help you out or explain how to go about it the easier way.......

I've helped out a lot of people as people before me helped me to get started.. It sounds like you made your mind very fast though, and for you to even mention a non pvp shard immediately says to me that this shard is not for you. Especially since you didn't even lose anything and it still made you quit. I still wish you luck in whatever you choose to do and if you want to stay let me know if you want a house to use or some help or advice.

This guy seems to have proconceived preference. He also probably didn't play T2A UO if he thinks there is even the slightest comparrison between T2A and a non-pvp shard where newbies can frollick and walk to dungeon Shame without fear of reprisal.

Bye, you're not what we're looking for.

As an experiment, I once made a female character named Belle and stood around WBB asking for gold... Made 20k in less than 30 minutes.

To BamBam and BenBrawl, thanks for the offers. How can I find you/reach you in game? I knew a BamBam on the GL shard when I played. I had a mage named Hocus and a fencer named Frosty.

Role Playing?!

... jk ...

Just like in era on OSI, theres a balance of people who will grief newbies and people who will go out of their way to help them. Often they are the same people. If you're out farming you're fair game to get pk'd, which is how it should be. That doesn't mean the person killing you is mean spirited. Its plenty hard to find people to pk at almost any time of day so you just gotta expect if you're in a position to be killed if someone is out pking they'll pk you because thats what they like to do.
