The new way to trade! uosatrade.com!
Re: The new way to trade! uosatrade.com!
My previous comments about theses issue have been quoted quite a bit in here, so i think it's proper to expand on them.
I have stated in the past that I would love to see a popular, TradeSpot type site for free-shards. It was not necessarily my preference to see a Uo Second Age specific trade site, nor was my initial vision a forums, nor is my vision any better than the next guys. Most of these statements were also made at a time when we were having severe difficulties in keeping the trade forums moderated, and during that time our player-moderators were coming under attack as well. We considered then that we may need to remove all player moderation of open forums. Fortunately these issues have all but disappeared since then, not that they could not reoccur.
A third party site is able to be more freely moderated, because the moderation of the users of such a site does not so severely reflect on the shard administration, it does not reflect on them at all. Our direct endorsement of a 3rd party site contradicts this separation, rendering the whole exercise of separation futile.
I have respect to the effort and motivation that has gone into this already, I know what it means to be an underdog, and expect that the site owners are aware that the real work on this site has barely begun.
As I've stated, It's not up to me to endorse this site; it's up to the community. A community embraced trade site which renders our current trade forums redunant would certainly make our current trading forums eligible for retirement. This a truth unrelated to the advent of uosatrade.
I respectfully request that justification for a third party site no longer be argued in this forum. One need not win this argument in order to pursue the future of this new exchange.

Thank you Derrrick for the clarification.
Long live the UOSA trade forums, and I wish the uosatrade.com people luck in establishing themselves as a possible future alternative to what we have now. I for one will not participate/use/request a user ID for the new site as I believe what we have here on the UOSA forums is adequate.
Good luck whoever you are.

this is not what you had stated in the OPuosatrade wrote:DarkWing: No one can currently register without sending us a personal message on http://forums.uosecondage.com and requesting a forum account. Every account is setup with the users uosecondage forum account as the username and regular members cannot change their display or forum name. We also practice discretion when registering players. If you were newly created today and requested a forum account you would likely be told to please wait while we analyze the situation. In the future registration will be open, however we will be capable of tracking individuals with multiple accounts. At the current time there is no way for a known scammer to receive a forum account. We feel this has been addressed several times now, and will not be posting further on this subject matter. As always,
Thank you everyone for your continued interest and we hope to trade with you soon!

So then you would know the person's login on the forums, right?uosatrade wrote:No one can currently register without sending us a personal message on http://forums.uosecondage.com and requesting a forum account. What if you are the scammer trying to get people's IPs not to mention hope they use the same password for uosatrade/uosaforums/uosa shard??????????uosatrade wrote:At the current time there is no way for a known scammer to receive a forum account.
Re: The new way to trade! uosatrade.com!
You're dumb if you use the same login for uo and any website related to it, which has been mentioned multiple times.

After Derrick's post I thought we all understood this thread should die, but I guess not. These accusations are not beneficial and I have a difficult time believing these are real concerns. Mens Rea, clearly I am some awesomely leet hacker since I can tell you that your login ID for the uosa forms is Mens Rea. Additionally if anyone actually cared what your IP is - which I assure you no one does - the several times you've been in IRC and didn't bother to auth and hide your host it has already been revealed as well. Theres nothing anyone can do with that information and no one wants it. IP addresses are not a key to anything, which is why for as long as the internet has existed there has never been any move to make them private. Anyone who wants your IP already has it.Mens Rea wrote:So then you would know the person's login on the forums, right?uosatrade wrote:No one can currently register without sending us a personal message on http://forums.uosecondage.com and requesting a forum account. Additionally, if you use your password for UOSA anywhere else that's you're fault. It's a bad idea - don't do it. Though you should be aware that admins of any of the major free forum software packages don't even have access to users passwords. If Derrick wanted to know your password right now he can't look it up. Simple Machines which is what uosatrade.com is evidently running is no different in this regard.
These concerns are baseless. Lets all show Derrick some respect and let this thread die. We're all aware of uosatrade.com and its time to let it thrive or let it die.

Re: The new way to trade! uosatrade.com!
This isn't an attempt to start back up an argument, but rather an announcement and appeal to the community to again give the site a try. This site was the subject of controversy from the start, but I signed up anyways because of the hopes by the admins here on the secondage forums that something like this would take off.
I haven't been playing as much lately, so when uosatrade asked me to mod because of my early support I decided to accept. I feel a site like this is important and I'm trying to do my part to attempt to help the community. Hopefully more people will give it a shot, and if you would like to sign up please pm me. Open registration isn't active at the moment and will continue to be disabled for the sake of security and to protect forum names until quite a bit more users have registered via the current system.
Again, if you end up deciding to sign up please do not use your in-game password. Thanks for reading this, and I hope some of you can bring yourselves to try something that could potentially benefit the shard in a huge way. I promise it won't hurt to give it a shot.

Re: The new way to trade! uosatrade.com!
question for staff for both websites:
are we allowed to link threads in the 2 websites?
i.e. I make a selling thread here and reference my identical selling thread on uosatrade.com, and visa versa.

Aye, that's perfectly acceptable. Thanks for asking!Downs wrote:are we allowed to link threads in the 2 websites?

Any links to any other websites from Second Age should be made in the context of an an appropriate subject and forums, this fits both of those. In the future we may list 3rd party sites in other places, such as our main website, but that would be more at our discretion.
