If thats what the people want....then make it so.

I seem to have missed all the forum posts/discussions where Derrick said GTFO and wants the trade section the hell out of town.......

It's not that they want it to be removed immediately but they just don't want to deal with it...and I don't blame them. Too much trivial BS floating around in there for any staff member to waste their time on...and I'm not sure I 100% agree with the protection from scams via IRC/Forum dealings...this can only lead to less trammel.

There really is no serious protection now, as I've said in this thread the consequences for scamming is a slap on the wrist. Theres absolutely no in game consequences for IRC or forum scams - a big enough scam through the forums could easily pay for itself. Thats why every time someone makes a big purchase they still use a broker. Brokers are the real safe guard here not where the trade negotiation is made.

After a long discussion with the current staff, we've decided that an address is in order, and also to announce something the community seems to desire.

First, the announcement. We've decided to add one member of the community who wishes to be a moderator and fulfill the role this demands. All of the current moderators assist with forum duties and act as counsel to to the administrator. You are required to be articulate as communication between moderators and administration is required and we will not suffer someone who cannot compose a simple thought. You must be someone we consider to be trusted. There are other requirements that you will have to agree to and we will tell you those requirements if we select you.

If you would like to be considered, you can send us a PM and we'll talk with you further. When we make a decision, if people are interested, they will announce their moderator status and we will confirm it. In the event we find multiple candidates who wish to fill the role, we may select more than one.

- What we are NOT asking of the community.

We do not want your email address to be PM'd to us. We do not want your full name, your social security number, your uosa game name, your uosa game or forum password, your bank account number, your date of birth, your sex, or your first born. We have no interest in these things. All we ask for registration is a PM that says "I would like an account." The rest will be taken from there.

- What we ARE asking of the community.

We are asking you to try a new trade forum that has a lot of tools and features built specifically for the trading community. We have been back and forth multiple times on the decision whether to create a forum, or to create an auction site. We felt that with the current style of trading and bartering on UOSA that an auction site would not fill the needs of alternative bidding and bartering, and that a well moderated forum with new staff and a fresh start can be plenty for people to trade differently. A new approach and merely new software can really spark a community into creation with very little change. (i.e. stackoverflow)
We do have a feedback style rating system which is available and visible on all of your posts. The feedback system also links to the auction/trade for which the feedback was left so you can see the entire correspondence between the participants. We have a system setup for featured auctions, and the different forum software offers a lot of additional options to spruce up your auctions as well. We are also working on using forms to possibly create a system that is more akin to auctions and customized for UO.(i.e. bidding in house deed increments)
What we want though is for you to give it a shot. The security is tight, and the moderators will be fair. We have no desire to spend the time and energy to create this only to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Thank you for your continued interest and we hope to trade with you soon!

I am happy to accept the position of Head Moderator for UOSATrade.com. I'd like to think uosatrade for his confidence in my fairness and uprightness. I promise that uosatrade.com will be the number one trade destination. And to help me get started, I have recruited the rest of cA as Trade and Brokering Specialists. They will work with you to not only get your goods sold but also to ensure a safe transaction in game.

I kid...

In all seriousness, this webpage will probably be a good thing for all, primarily because it will free up time for Derrick to slave away on code in a dank North Korean prison.

I like the idea of adding a public member of the community. Good move. I think it will go a long way to giving your site legitimacy.

And no, I want nothing to do with it or your site. Until Derrick publicly gives it his blessing, I will continue to only use the UOSA forums. I do not and will not be a mod there and I will not publicy or privately support it. Neither I nor $$$ want anything to do with it, nor do we have any part in it. Any attempt to make it look like I have any part or interest in www.uosatrade.com will be taken as harrasment and I will report it to Derrick.

I encourage anyone considering using that site to be extremely cautious and suspicious until it is proven otherwise.

You guys are seriously being paranoid. As long as you don't give them your account information, there is really nothing they can do to you that anyone else with a website can't already do.

We felt compelled to answer a few more questions that seem to have been answered by others but never supported with actual information. We want to preface that we make no claim and no attempt to speak for the staff and their desires.

- Why do we need this? Why should we want this?

We agree that as far as need goes, we may not be needed in the traditional sense. We agree that the current trading forum suffices and does the job of facilitating player trading very well, and that the moderators there are generally fair and quick to act. We do however, feel that we are acting in parallel to some spoken desires of the staff. To quote:
Derrick wrote:I think the general idea here is for us to have less sticks in the fire. We've had too much trouble with player moderation in forums and IRC, and I personally feel that staff resources are better directed elsewhere. This isn't the fist time this has been proposed. Think uo.tradespot of era.
Derrick wrote:I have previously advocated for, and continue to encourage the creation of an off shard trading site not moderated by us. The trading site, while a very useful resource would be (imho) much better were it a separate independent site in the spirit of the UO TradeSpot of era.
The current iteration of tradespot is still very 1999, as you'll see if you visit there. However, contrary to many beliefs it was only a ubbthreads forum that they ran as a trading site. There was nothing special or unique about it in terms of auction capabilities. The moderation and the community is what made it an auction site.

Lastly, as it has been stated we are working on more features and customization in order to facilitate trading as much as possible. This is our business, and as successful salesman we feel that we have a good handle on what traders would need or want. However, we cannot anticipate your every wish and desire, and thus will be asking that if you wish to see something you post it in bug reports if you are a member.

Thank you for everyone for your continued interest in making this work and we hope to trade with you soon!

I have signed up and set up my account, if this is properly moderated, and auctions get derailed less than they do tend to in the trade section here, and with its extra features it could be very, very good.

Its quite apparent that a fair bit of effort has gone into this, imo too much for it to be a scam, and, while I will continue to use the trade forums here, I shall use uosaTRADE.com too. I would still like amount only responses but im not sure thats possible.

a new concern.

in the last Year and a half playing this game and dealing with people on the forums as well as IRC. you learn who can be trusted/ who to ignore/ who to beware of.

with this new forum Everyone gets a clean slate. everyone can choose a new unrelated Nickname. no one will know who the untrustworthy players are.

seems like there will be a ton of time wasted finding out who you can trust.

yes TRUST is my Biggest Concern.

its to bad the user list from Secondage forums couldn't be imported somehow
so that everyone had to keep there same name/Profile

I will take a long time to build up your Forum Reputation on a new Forum.

we all know there are players out there who LOVE to make Duplicate Characters to Grief Players. and now it looks like they may be getting a new Playground!

no one want to get cheated.

One more thing

I really don't like the idea of having to now watch 2 seperate Forums for this game.

DarkWing: No one can currently register without sending us a personal message on http://forums.uosecondage.com and requesting a forum account. Every account is setup with the users uosecondage forum account as the username and regular members cannot change their display or forum name. We also practice discretion when registering players. If you were newly created today and requested a forum account you would likely be told to please wait while we analyze the situation. In the future registration will be open, however we will be capable of tracking individuals with multiple accounts. At the current time there is no way for a known scammer to receive a forum account. We feel this has been addressed several times now, and will not be posting further on this subject matter. As always,

Thank you everyone for your continued interest and we hope to trade with you soon!

Although I'm a bit skeptical, I'm going to give them a fair chance. If you don't want to, then don't use it. If it delivers as promised, it could be quite a good tool for trading.
