I'm not debating silver. But don't you think that it's better to not add an ADDITIONAL inaccuracy?Zeppelin wrote: Ahh I see. I forgot about era accuracy.

The Silver system completely alters the economy all together. It's a reward system that is totally out of era, unique to the shard.SJane3384 wrote:I'm not debating silver. Why should you get free items, neon items, for pvping WITHOUT ANY CHANCE TO LOSE ANYTHING OR USE ANY RESOURCES.
Gambling via an NPC would not alter the economy, as the net profit is already circulating the server via farming, fishing, and etc.
It's really the lesser of two evils. So what's the harm in circulating gold?

Silver adds more to this shard than an NPC of any sort ever will, plain and simple. This can easily be done in game as-is with a moderating player instead of an NPC. There is no era accurate manner to reward players like has been done throughout UO's history because the era wasn't long enough to generate many ideas. CUB was a one time deal on OSI and its not era accurate to constantly repeat it. Without any reward system in place this shard would lose players quickly because one major goal of the game for many people is to collect items of high value to show off.
Silver is a very positive aspect of the shard, an NPC that replaces players in game serves only to remove player interaction which is the only thing separating UO from a single player game. If that's what you're after I'd suggest Oblivion. It's a pretty good game, even has a gambling NPC.

Y: Not factually accurate.
G: This is a good constructive comment.
B: This is unrelated to the argument.

I think sometimes people need to chill out on the era accuracy BS. The mechanics are era accurate, thats what matters.
Era accurate, macroing?
Era accurate, multi clienting?
Era accurate, free?
Era accurate, Silver?
Era accurate, events?
Era accurate, spawning rares? and the timers on them?
Where are my open book rares? I have not seen them on this shard.
Shit a few weeks ago I seen Santa's slay in brit! THATS NOT ERA ACCURATE! R@GE! [end sarcasm.
No they are not. But theyre ways to make it more fun to play here.
And to who posed the question of who cares about chess boards? I DO. I have played several high stakes games of chess on this shard, and will take on any challengers any time you want.
I think the poker tables good be a good addition, its not detracting from the game, adding items, anything of the nature. Just a simple NPC that you and OTHER PLAYERS can join up and have some friendly competition and make some $. You could even make it so the rare "cards" when dbl clicked on open up the poker game where people can join if you will, itd make them more valuable.

If we're going with something era-inaccurate, I'd still like to see silver over poker. Silver at least has the duels, which were somewhat era accurate (though I believe they didn't happen often...I didn't PvP then so I don't know a lot about it). Also, silver replicates somewhat the bonuses you got for some of the subscription stuff, and those who carried over from orig. to T2A definitely got those, as my brother can attest.
As far as it being abundant: There is this. We have now lasted 2x as long as T2A did. So I can see us having more than they did. I agree that silver shouldn't be given as much as it is, but I think for things like duels (not CTF) it is warranted. This is not a personal bias, as I have NEVER participated in a duel. It's just a thought, because again, it keeps player interaction going.
I also agree with silver/unique prizes for player run events. That IS era accurate (check the Grape Festival), and again encourages ingame interaction.
