eating?
Re: eating?
Unless I am mistaken, the only thing eating does is refresh a little stamina. But you get full fast. Its better to use red pots.
I always carry a few fish steaks just in case I get in a spot.

Improved skill gains based on eating was a myth.
Being fed only increase hp and stam regeneration and serves as an instant boost to stam when consumed.

Re: eating?
this belief is so satisfying to me
no matter what evidence is provided people still swear their gains are better with food. its just so awesome
I wish I made it up

Re: eating?
eating may have very well sped up training of some skills dependent on stamina especially if most of these skills were trained on the field instead of macroed. Stamina regenerating faster = faster swings = faster gains when you are running around beating things and being beaten on.

Re: eating?
no...
just no...
you might as well say red pots help with skills.
no.
if your stam is low, go ahead and eat food! but that food isnt doing anything different than a red pot

Re: eating?
all myths are based on fact which holds truth
redpots refresh sure, but if you are regenerating hits and stamina quicker being well fed especially back then you will be hitting faster and engaging more in battle more often.
They weren't powergamers back then, most were just wayward explorers in a new world and any edge to help make them cut it became the fashionable trend.
The people here are more like an advanced civilization rediscovering that old world with leaps in knowledge and technology.
No wonder there was a Star Trek Guild here lol

Re: eating?
Arch, does have a valid point. During the early days healing with bandages had an excessive resuse timer and there was no such thing as meditation for mana gains. Food would have sped up health regeneration during a time when people didn't really macro for skill gain. However, during the later days of the release of the game, especially in t2a it wouldn't have mattered a whole lot.

Re: eating?
Nah, you're just bending and twisting the facts so you can disagree with me. Theres no valid point here. Food won't help you with gains.
Want to prove me wrong? Make 2 identical dexxers and macro one with periodic food eating and don't eat with the others. If there is a statistically significant difference in gains I'll give you every item I own and delete all my characters.

Re: eating?
If Dexxers are macers fighting macers....hand it over lol
You see that was more then just a rumor back then. When characters started out with nothing being killed by wild chickens in game anything that kept you regenerating stamina and hits in training skills in actual combat had to be beneficial.
It probably was advice handed down from generations of one group of new players to the next for quite some time.

That wouldn't mean food helps with gains.archaicsubrosa77 wrote:If Dexxers are macers fighting macers....hand it over lol
I said macro 2 identical dexers, not duel 2 identical dexers.

Re: eating?
^Look at my edit above to see my theory on how the "eating speeds skill gain" rumor started...and at one time more then likely was true for most at the beginning starting out.

Re: eating?
Still wrong, I won't allow you to wiggle around on this. It did not help with skill gain. You seem to be confusing an aid to staying alive with increasing skill gains.
With your logic bandaids, heal regs, red pots and anything else that replenishes health/mana/stam increases skill gains. Which is not true.
Hell, you could say wooden tables increase archery gains because if you stand behind them you can shoot at an npc without them fighting back.
You'd still be wrong of course.

The same faulty thought processes that allow people to be so confident their skills gained faster when they ate food also has people seeing special meaning in they fact 3 people talked about similar topics during the day.
Our brains are great at seeing patterns, but not especially effective at differentiating real and perceived patterns.
