Secures, Chests, Backpacks - Weight Limit?

Post by Zehrfox »

What are the weight and item limits here at UOSA? They do not seem to be the same as info on UO Stratics.

For Example I have a Secure Wooden Chest in my house, that seems to be limited to 400 Stones. Right next to it, I have a locked down backpack (not secure) that has over 600 Stones of stuff? So is the limit lower on secures or Wooden Chests? Do I need a metal Chest or some other container?

I always thought that the bank box and secures in your home had no weight limit (or at least high enough, that i never hit it)

If someone can either list the weight and item limits here at UOSA or point me to them, I would be thankful :D

All containers - 125 item limit.

Secure containers, non-locked down containers and your backpack - 400 stone weight limit.

Bank and locked down containers - no weight limit.

There are no functional differences between containers that are large/small or wood/metal etc.

Thanks Jill!

That helps a lot. I wonder why a secure's limit is lower than just a locked down container? To help thieves? - Only reason that I can think of.

It was really odd, I was just trying to put my regs in while training Magery and only 2 sets of regs fit, so I had to switch to a backpack on the floor. Oh well, at least I know now. I am glad I didn't buy other containers to try them.

Take care :D

There is nothing in this game that "helps thieves". Rather than ask "why does a secure container have a weight limit?", ask yourself why there are secure containers in the first place.

To answer that - Why have secures? - I can see a real purpose for them especially in houses that are open to the public for stores, or public use of items like forges, anvils, etc. The secure allows the home owner to store items in there, that only he can access, but lets the public access all other items and areas. That way the home actually serves 2 purposes in a way, otherwise, the same person would need to buy 2 homes to do the same thing, and we all know how hard it is to place houses now, if there were no secures, I think there would be a lot more houses.

As far as in non-public homes, the secure serves to make you decide what you can lose, and what you really want to keep. Given the vast amounts of regs and materials needed for skill training and crafting, the weight limit is very low. I can only keep about 5% of my items in a secure. Since the only real difference between secures and normal containers is who can access them, it definitely has to do with thieves, whether they are strangers or friends you let in the house (not actual friends of the house or co-owners, because they CAN access the secures too)

But more to the point, I wondered why the weight limit on an item changes when you make it secure? obviously someone took the time to make those changes and code them in, just wondering what the logic there was. If you are going to allow secures, why not leave the weight limit alone, or increase it, since you only have a limited number of secures per home anyway.

BTW - I am not complaining, just wondering why? - Now that I have the information, I will plan and use them accordingly.

Because the designers still wanted there to be *some* risk involved in house ownership. Although the ability to lock down tables and effectively wall off a portion of your house certainly removes much of that.

UO started off as "do whatever you want". The some of the more sophisticated players really took advantage of the less sophisticated players, to the point that they were quitting the game and not having fun. So UO added some features to make it a little safer for newer, less sophisticated players. And then this cycle repeated over and over and over and over.

This is one of those times where the choice wasn't "history" related. Instead the Phase 3 housing patch (which is in our era) was seen as too "Trammel" and most of the community voted against it, as well as Derrick.

That.

I lived out of a public small house for loooooooong time before moving up to an L-shape. I had a ton of crap stored there too. Only locked the door when I macroed.
