1v1 Training Lessons?

Post by checkmate »

I'm getting close to finishing the build of my 1v1 char, and was wondering if anyone could direct me to PvP guides or is willing to train me a little bit on the server.

If you are willing to train me, I don't have anything to offer except my friendship and your back if a fight comes up ;)

I am a very competent person, wiling to learn. BS in Mathematics and MS in Computer Science. Played UO 1998-2000, joined here in September 2010. Rank 1 Starcraft 2v2 random, Rank 4 Starcraft 2v2 Teams, Rank 28 1v1, all Diamond Leagues. I also used to play a lot of TDA DOTA, and FPS.

Jeez I feel like I'm signing up for a dating service, but I just wanted to post this info so you don't feel like you're wasting your time!

Cheers

I require at least a PhD of my students, but here are some fun facts to keep mind:

- halberds do a crapload of damage. magics can do 50+ fairly commonly.
- tank mages are the only way to "truly" "1v1"
- you can Weaken someone multiple times if they're buffed, ultimately down to 90. If they chug a white (+20 STR) potion, repeat.
- "lol noob you ran away and healed when you were at 4 HPs and I was trying to hit you" (pro tip: next time stand still so they can hit you and kill you)
- debuffs will disrupt, but only if they actually debuff.
- "the pvp was better before". This is true now, last year, next June, etc.
- direct damage spells have a 1-second delay from when you target them to when the damage is actually applied. This has some interesting ramifications for disrupting spells.
- "That wasn't my main; wait here and duel my main for a castle deed, noob"
- Paralyze does not disrupt
- tournaments where you can only use red potions (fish steaks) are the true test of a UO player. Nay, THE TRUE TEST OF A MAN!
- you can throw purple potions while holding a 2-handed weapon; manually targeting the potions (via Last Target) for some reason works much better than using a macro that pauses and targets automatically
- in general, most of the people who talk about pvping a lot are those who take this game much more seriously than you
- clothing can provide some AR but doesn't hinder meditation. Having 110 INT doesn't let you recover mana any faster than 100 INT.
- "omg you actually use [thing that killed me]? lol noob"
- mini-heal is powerful. It's actually impossible to kill someone 1v1 if they know what they're doing and expressly play not to die. People end up dying, though, because they try to go on the offensive.

As for in-the-moment tactics, others are better at explaining that. I just offer info on mechanics and whatnot.

:( Trammel Duels.....just like on osi.....

Look in the guides section for my 2 part post on not dying, and healing through stupid pvp combos. Then find someone who is marginally good to show you the hally timer in game. Finally, watch the people at the tournament and pay close attention to their timing. Then develop your own leet pvp skills from there.

Wait is this 1v1 tournament system from OSI?
I stopped playing UO during UO:R so I have no idea what happened after that.

CTF, 1v1, 2v2, 4v4... they have those on OSI too?

Who were you in TDA? I played under the names warrior8u and o_0. Welcome to the server. Maybe we can play DotA sometime. BeatingU on here is also a TDA player.
