I think me, platy, or driz brought this up a long time ago. In era, when you couldnt physically lock items down in the front steps, they had a way of doing it.

From what I remember, you would place the item on the steps where you wanted it to be, and pick it up, and drag it inside your house **NOT putting it in your backpack, just dragging it** and you would try and place it into a chest that was locked down, AND locked.

Because the chest was locked, it would drop back to the front steps, and automatically be locked down. For some reason, I also somewhat remember that when items were in boxes that were just locked down, they themselves would be locked down... So you would have to unlock the chest to take out items, I could be WAYY off on this though. But Im 100% sure on the locked down steps method.

Lockdowns within containers were Phase II housing, and the bug was a direct result of this feature.

What proves the date(s) of these images?

How interresting this all is. Although I can understand not wanting containers being locked down and/or secured on a front step, personally I am not opposed. But, what I do have a strong opinion on is being able to place house keys (on a ring) outside the door. I love, as Derrick calls it, that "exploit."

So, all I can say is that I hope it takes Derrick a long, Long, LONG time to figure out the coding needed in order to make that fix. I'd hate to have to start carrying keys to my houses. And, giving my young nephew coppies of those same keys, frankly terrifies me. :o

If Derrick decides to let us lock down items next to doors, it shouldn't affect locking down items outside on your steps or your keys against the door. I was able to lock items down outside all along, through T2A, before and after Phase II of housing. I even had a full row of 8 or 10 Christmas trees locked down in a row outside of the house.

I don't see how it would be functionally possible to place 8 or 10 trees that weren't inside your house.

I'm skeptical that things could be locked down outside. If that were the case, I would not have had such fun stealing water barrels.

At this rate, eventually all of my screenshots are going to be uploaded here.

Anyway, the step that sticks out counted as a full space for your house at one point. They did fix it in a patch the year after, people were complaining about the lag the trees were causing when they came near houses when they were outside (I'll try and dig up that patch info, I believe I even ran across it recently). But here's where I did it that first year, image date is January 2, 1999.

Edit: Taken from http://update.uo.com/design_54.html
Holiday Tree Deed
* Holiday Trees cannot be placed within three tiles of your front door and cannot be placed outside.

I'm pretty sure there was even a prior stop to it though, but haven't found it yet.

Edit 2: Kaivan found the earlier fix I was looking for. And right, the trees were never lockdowns, but deeds you placed.

That's a holdover from early Christmas of 98. It was no longer possible to place items out there after the introduction of this patch:

Also, those types of items weren't actually locked down, they were placed (like the house add-ons introduced later).
