Locking down items next to doors
Ok, I give up, I've tried everything I can think of. What's the trick to locking down items next to doors in your house?
Re: Locking down items next to doors
unless its been patched out, raise the z axis of the item to be above the door. if you're talking key ring outside, its like 3 wood tables and 3 fishsteaks or something

Re: Locking down items next to doors
I know I always had locked down items next to all doors on Pacific, even way prior to Phase II housing. I used to keep a row of chests along the wall with the double doors, all locked down, for security and storage. I hated the messy look of them sticking out how it's usually done and I was only a few steps from a guard zone, so didn't need to hurry up and get inside the house. Here's a part of a screenshot of the house showing the row of chests along the entire wall of the front doors, even directly in front of both doors, with one moved out where I unlocked it to get in and just didn't put back yet. This screenshot is dated March 22, 1999.
So why isn't it possible to lock down items next to doors here? (And oddly enough, I can lock down keys outside next to the doors without any problems, just not inside, not even keyrings, I even tried stacking items.)

That's very interesting. Can you upload the uncropped original screenshot?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sure. The above image I enlarged 2x so the chests could be seen easier since just a tiny bit of the top sticks out the way I placed them.

Very cool. Ripplinger, if you have a whole cache of screenshots, is there anywhere you can upload them to?
I love poring over this stuff looking for new little hidden things, like these boxes.

Huh. Seems to directly conflict with the patch notes, but some of these might be possible if by "adjacent" they meant N/S/E/W. No idea how you could get lockdowns directly behind your front door though.

Feb 24, 1999Targeting an item not already locked down will lock down the item if the following conditions are met: The item is not adjacent to a door. ...
Placing a [trash] barrel obeys the same rules as locking down items in houses: not by the door, not on steps, etc.

Thanks

That's why I'm struggling with this too. This certainly appears to be in era though, I'm not sure where to go from here on this.Rammar wrote:Seems to directly conflict with the patch notes, but some of these might be possible if by "adjacent" they meant N/S/E/W. Re: Locking down items next to doors
Just wanted to also note that I didn't have to do any "tricks" to lock down the chests there next to and in front of the doors... no stacking of x number of items and then locking them down and let them drop, nothing at all. Just placed the chests where I wanted directly on the floor and locked them down.

They weren't secures by any chance?Ripplinger wrote:Just wanted to also note that I didn't have to do any "tricks" to lock down the chests there next to and in front of the doors...

No, all the secures were in the back east room. Those at the door were just normal lock downs.

any chance of uploading your whole screenies collection somewhere?

Re: Locking down items next to doors
It's entirely possible (and likely) that those chests near the door weren't locked down, as it wasn't necessary at the time. The reason that I suggest that is because of the fact that one of those chests is actually directly in front of the left door, it's not even adjacent to it. If that chest were actually locked down, for any reason, it would blatantly be in conflict with the rules without even presuming a specific condition on the rules.

Where in 1999 could you place a house over a farm field?
