Not that the UO Demo should be taken as gold, but if you cast a debuff spell at something that is already affected by the same debuff, you get a fizzle animation and the text "The spell fizzles." I'm not sure whether it would disrupt spell casting or not just because of this, but it seems like it would not.

Also, debuff disrupts used to be in on this shard, but it was changed to the current system. There is probably an old thread about this.

Hmm...that is what we expect, but the belief is that it still disrupts spellcasting. Is it possible to somehow use the demo to test if it actually does disrupt or not? That'd probably put this thing to rest.

Edit: Maybe find a wraith or some other monster who casts debuffs, and Fraps what happens when it casts a debuff that is already on you? Would this be accepted as hard evidence either way it turns out?

Ahh even though I'm getting old my memory still works on occasion..

I remember why we have the harm memories. Harm was used to interrupt because the only way to interrupt was to cause damage.. regular debuffs like weaken and shit didn't interrupt casting.. magic arrow and harm where used because disruptions in casting had to do with doing dmg. Harm was chosen over magic arrow because it was faster to hit. So causing damage was the source of the spell interruptions. The thing about my UO memory is that it is era accurate.. because I stopped playing UO during T2A. I never made it to runebooks or the later half of the T2A era, all of my memories are from this era.. and really hence why I'm here. I never even new there was a UO:R or any expansions after that (actually that Eastern expansion looked pretty good).

Thanks,
Khar

I am planning on testing several issues with the demo here soon. Spell debuffs are one of the items on the list. However, it won't be an easy task, because NPC's casting is disabled on the demo. I still believe there may be a possible chance of testing it though. I simply need to get my other PC up and running again with the demo installed on it. If it is proven that debuffs disrupted in the demo after it is already has been applied it would be added instantly on here. It is a fact that they disrupted after being applied during UOR and if it was the same case during pre-t2a than it would also be the case during the t2a era.

Great to hear. I'm curious to see what happens myself, too. I already have 3 computers (and a laptop) networked and ready to go, so I may try this at home when I get a chance.

As Faust said, absolutely. This was the source we used for verification of the memories of the fizzle.
The demo is not wholly accurate, but in a case like this if it disrupted in the demo I would take that as absolute proof of that fact for the era. The reverse however would not be true, sloppy demo coding may even prevent players from be interrupted altogether, however the demo has proved to be extremely accurate in mechanics.

I was HEAVYILY addicted to PKing duing this time era. The way I remember it was this:

1) Harm interrupted very many casts and quite often.
(I used this technique while waiting to be able to debuff again.)

2) Weaken/Clumsy/Feeble was not resistable and interupted spells cast.
(As I rememer using this as a healing technique, but if they were already weakened then the spell would not stick therefore not interupt again.)

I have no proof and care not to go digging as it takes away from my UOSA play time, but implimenting an infinite interupt system would completel kill pvp. It would no longer be skill, but i would become a spam debuff and watch people harm/lightning you do death or if they bring a helper just watch him eb u down. Got Gank?

exactly, because you couldnt rely on debuffs because they only 'stuck' once until it wore off...only harm was almost indefinate

Any news on if the demo confirms debuff disrupts one way or another? I haven't had the time to try it myself.

Well to be honest I would have found out last night, but an unfortunate circumstance occurred. I believe that I have figured out a way to get an npc mage out of town with an old bug in the game. The only problem is that it requires at least a day of macroing. I was using an old school macro setup last night. However, the object that was holding down the key tipped over and hit a "power" key on this old crappy microsoft keyboard that I had in my closet. So my setup for the last week just went *poof*, along with the 5k I had saved up in the bank. It is only a matter of time before I find this out for sure. I'm looking forward to tonight for a trial run after I get off work here.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Thanks for being proactive in figuring this out for us.

I have done a full trial run on this issue with the demo tonight just a few minutes ago. I managed to get the npc mage out of town to see if the casted debuffs would work. Sadly, the npc's during this era apparently did not cast debuffs. All he would cast was damage spells and paralyze. This issue still remains open regretfully. I was for sure I would be able to clear it up tonight, but I did not expect the mage AI for this era to react in this fashion. I'm sorry I could not confirm or deny this issue through the demo. I still hope something will come up one way or the other eventually.

Wow, this one just doesn't want to be resolved. Oh well, I greatly appreciate your efforts anyway.
