Solo Pk help
I'm currently making a hally mage, however, I have heard that dexxers do better solo. Is that true? If so what would be the best template? Should I go maces or fencing? If fencing should I go kryss, short spear, or warfork? Thanks in advance!

Re: Solo Pk help
Its all about how good you are at UO overall. No specific template really holds any dominance over the other.
Fencing coupled with poisoning is a very good combo to have on a dexer.
Use a kryss against un armored targets, use a warfork against armored.
Do not use parry for PvP.
Use one handed weapons mainly, so you have a free hand to chug potions.
If your not using potions your doomed. (At least refresh pots)
Glad to see another field pvper. Good luck

Awesome... sounds good. Is it worth it to GM archery for the opener/finisher? Or should I use a different skill?
Re: Solo Pk help
Definitely not. There's a big delay between when you think you're going to fire/hit and when you actually do. There may be some lingering bugs with archery, but no one really uses it so no one really tests itKelthius wrote:Awesome... sounds good. Is it worth it to GM archery for the opener/finisher? As for other advice, I'd contradict Rose and say that dexers are pretty horrible right now. I used to have a pretty badass fencing dexer, who's been reduced to a purple-potion thrower who sometimes happens to connect with the kryss if the circumstances are perfect.
Dexers are good for not dying, and for having a free seventh skill for some variety and different uses, but they're awful for actually killing people. Tank mages are far better.

Make a tank mage with a vanq hally 1 good hally hit and a ebolt and the fkers drop like nothing

Re: Solo Pk help
Mike has a good point there.
However there are many things you can do to give yourself an advantage as a dexer.
For example:
*Choose a tighter and more closed in area to hunt your prey. Chasing someone in an open field while trying to poke at their back will usually end up in frustration. Narrow Dungeon corridors on the other hand may be a more suitable place.
*Spend 1 hour training a forest/desert ostard for bonus stamina. This is a good technique for a dexer to use, as having a mount that can out run your victim's is a great way to end a chase quick. Keep in mind you will want to have a hotkey that target's their mount when they hop off to refresh it 1
*As Mike said, you have extra skill slot's at your disposal. Skills like Tracking, Hiding, Detect, Poisoning, Magery, Archery, can provide you with a boost on the field.
*There are certain Magic Items that are not to expensive that can give you a massive advantage in the field. Look for things like Teleport Rings, Magic Reflect clothing/jewelry, Invisibility clothing/jewelry, Ghouls Touch (paralyze) weapons.
Archery unfortunately does not work all that well here at this time. The range needs to be enhanced so people don't constantly off-screen shots to avoid them (which is WAY to easy) and the time to "hit" after you shoot must be drastically reduced. You almost have enough time to cast a full wall of stone and drop it in front of you before the archers shot hits after the arrow is fired.
But anyway, it's definitely not gonna hurt to roll a tank mage, they are the most suited for pvp in this era.
1 - There is a commonly used bug that refreshes mount stamina to 100%. It is done by simply dismounting, commanding the horse to follow you (if it isnt already) and then remounting. This bug should have been left out and people should have to feed their mounts when they tire, as it was intended for the t2a era.

Re: Solo Pk help
Narrow corridors help, but the bigger issue is that the fastest you can possibly swing a weapon is every 1.25 seconds, and it takes 1.25 seconds to cast Recall. So best case, you get 1 chance at a disrupt for each cast. And sometimes, the timing works out such that they cast it in between your swings entirely.
The only time I find myself effective with my dexer pk is if the target has 0 wrestling and I hit every swing, or if I've got some tricks up my sleeve (like, 1-tile wide corridors I'm chasing them into that I know are blocked by a monster somewhere in them.

Re: Solo Pk help
Dexers are terrible for PKing, one whiff and your target has recalled. It's frustrating enough trying to stop people recalling when you're using a mage.
