Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
I've suggested a change with listed examples to the silver system....
With Derrick's response, which I think we all need to be aware of, perhaps we could brainstorm constructive ideas as to how to amend the system?

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
changing the prices for items screws people over. either the ones that already purchased the stuff or the ones that speculate on a closing of the gap between the costs of an item in-game and from the trophy turn in system (like neon dyes & black dye tubs). i can't think of any good reason why the prices should match anyway.
on another note: that the people that profited heavily from the old silver income source are the ones that now whine "give us moar events and silver... plz" is - in my book - a sign that the recent event changes were good. go make your money in game. you know, like the way it was.
just my 2 cents.

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Would you please explain to me one event that took place on Great Lakes that took place on Baja or let alone any shard name for both places here?Lord Cavewight of GL wrote:Faust wrote:There is no way to 'accurately' replicate events or specially created items based on the production shards of the era.
Events really aren't whats in question, Yes events cant be exactly as they were in 1999 and technology allows for staff to make much nicer events and they really should stay.
But surely someone can enlighten me as to why Silver is actually era accurate![]()
Question answered.
There is no way to replicate the events 'accurately' without making it 'inaccurately' for all shards. We are not replicating <insert shard name here> but the era in itself. UO Second Age in a sense is like a separate entity or production shard springing up on the production list with it's own 'unique' events just like it would have been back in the day if it had happened.

So let me get this right. Your defending the existence of a unique system that generates items that never existed on OSI..... because we cant "create items based on the productions shards of the era"?Faust wrote:... or specially created items based on the production shards of the era.
Lets break this down a bit more....
"create items based on the productions shards of the era".
What exactly did they create on productions shards for events?
Random items that were parts of the event.... not sure why we have to have an inaccurate silver system rather than just making unique and non unique items for quests like OSI did.....
Why would it matter how the items are generated in our own unique events?
If the event takes the purchase of silver, copper, platinum, or even horse dung to receive a reward it frankly does not matter.

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Yes. When we really like a feature, but are aware it's era inaccurate, we call it an "event" on this shard. It doesn't actually have to be an event, where a GM runs out and manually does something as a one-off thing, it's just an expression to denote an era inaccuracy we're accepting.Lord Cavewight of GL wrote:But surely someone can enlighten me as to why Silver is actually era accurate![]()
It seems to be a community culture. It bugged me initially as well (since obviously the silver trophy system is wildly inaccurate and not an "event" in any era accurate definition of the term), but it's just something you get used to when you understand that people aren't really claiming it's "era accurate."
The shard is still really fun, and I think the silver system is for the better, even if it's not fully accurate.
Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
How is having an event and distributing a special item based on that event era inaccurate?
There is by no means a way to make something 'era accurate' that wasn't universal among all production shards unless you were replicating <insert shard name here>.

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Very quick point that I'm surprised hasn't been discussed more:
I watch Sandro et. al. win practically all the tournements i witness. He and a couple others control the silver distribution anyways.
While i was heavy into PvP in my younger years, I'm more of a boom-box maker, PvM, Treasure Hunter, and all around explorer... that's how i enjoy UO and I really don't care about being OMGLEETPVP.
I guess what I'm saying is that for a guy like me who has 0.0 chance of winning a tourney on my laptop, i would have to buy Silver at an overly inflated price to even think about getting any cool CBD or Hues.
I don't think the items need to be changed, but the way you can obtain silver isn't in my grasp (or anyone like me) at the moment. I just hope i can get millions of GP so i can basically pay Sandro for winning tournements. Follow?
More events? Sure. But maybe another way of getting silver...
Thanks for reading.

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
The solution to that problem is simple by introducing the events into the real world and diversify the type of events into a more PvE structure. This has been mentioned many times in the past and Derrick has even hinted into pushing for this process. However, the time it takes to recode something like this isn't easy and takes up a huge amount of time.
Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Maybe we should just make silver obtainable how it was on osi during t2a era

Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
Right now when theres events etc like dungeon crawls, player ran events, town invasions etc, there is opportunity for people to collect silver in the real game environment. I think this is what you will be seeing more and more of in terms of availability of silvers to non pvpers. Also moves people out of the trammels.
So this is already being phased in is what i mean

You have a SS or patch notes?
Re: Trophy Turn in System / Event Updates
I suppose it's a matter of whether you see the automated Silver system as a game system the world uses to creates "2v2 Events" based on rules, the same way it creates "a hind" in areas where the rules call for it (Silver system is highly inaccurate), or if you see it as a sequence of unrelated "2v2 Events" individually hosted by the staff with the aid of the server (Silver system is accurate).Faust wrote:How is having an event and distributing a special item based on that event era inaccurate?

However, since staff usually does not initiate events (and the times they do, it's usually been at the request of frequent attendees in IRC), the latter position does not seem tenable. More importantly, almost anything could be interpreted as an event under the second view, which is why I concluded that it must be a built in loophole.
