Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
I played WoW for about a month and one of the funniest things I saw in the game was an arena team called "STDs are BOP", which is in game terminology for "bind on pickup", meaning you can't lose the item.Generic wrote:Teehee, STD. Wow -> A Trammel game for pvp.
Slowly Lord British, ruler of Britannia, rises from his throne. Brushing the dust off of his crown, a concerned realization crosses his face. The rumors are true!

i'm going to assume you didn't read this the first time i posted it. adhere to 5 out of these 10 points and you will die ALOT less.
it might sound like a flame, but its not. its an accumulation of what the average player would learn after making mistakes and dying multiple times. dying in UO acts as a reinforcer. if you don't enjoy it, don't make the same stupid mistakes over and over again.marmalade wrote: 1. carry trapped pouches. these negate the paralyse spell completely
2. carry potions, even mage shop bought ones
3. carry invis items/magic reflect items/teleport items/heal wands
4. invest in magic resist and/or wrestling
5. invest in at least 60-70 magery so recall doesn't fizzle at inconvenient times
6. learn to defend yourself and/or fight back.
7. hunt in groups. this is an mmo after all
8. hire some anti pks to hang around as a deterrent
9. go somewhere that isnt a hotspot
10. learn from your mistakes instead of crying on the forums like a little girl
this is UO, not hello kitty online. the mechanics allow for griefing, so expect it to occur. prepare for the worst, and when it happens you'll have felt like you've learnt something instead of feeling like a hopeless newbie.

Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
agree. just carrying pouches and potions alone will save you the majority of the time.
in ways OSI was far more brutal. i remember bing ganked by about 5 PKs in the northern minoc mines on napa valley on one of my first days. i would've been carrying like 5 shovels and maybe a few ingots. I still remember the name ABSOLUTE ZERO from that. i got PKed all the fricken time just while mining, and all the time in dungeons. here at least you're at peace in 99% of places except dungeons.

I was boss at PvP in WoW, back in the olden days, when everyone was toting around their "Of the eagle" gear, and I had a legendary plus 6/8 Tier 2 before they even patched in graphics...
Literally a meat grinder in WSG, with a couple healers, I could out damage entire teams...
Ah the nostalgia.

Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
I would just like to remind the OP, that his entire first post describes a 1000000000% era accurate UO shard to the date range of 1997-1999.
That describes exactly how a real OSI run shard was. The dungeons....were.....DANGEROUS. They were deadly, no-go-zones, UNLESS you came prepared or with a posse ready to take on the reds/pvp'ers/griefers.
I do not know what era the OP played, but I am guessing it was after the 1999/2000 time.
So you either have 2 options. Fight them....or join them.....or actually #3 - play trammel style and ignore them. Ie: dont go in dungeons - they are dangerous.

Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
Stay a little longer. I almost gave up too for the exact same reasons until I realized I could fight back and win.
I plan to start a heavy APK group once I get settled. I've already killed a couple reds myself. I used to be scared of those red griefers, TG, but now I realize how bad they actually are so now I stick around to fight the 1v1s (I still flee on the 4v1s though
)
I suggest you make a recall macro, and getting your wrestling up if you're a bard so you can recall out.
Hope to see you around.

Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
It may be the fact that people are banking on memories they have from 10 years ago, but I still can't figure out why some think there are more PKs on this server than 99.
All I can remember from back in the day is PKs. Large groups of them. Or even worse, one that was actually a 7x, who could take on mass hordes of people with fireballs.
I farmed Destard level 1 for about 6 hours this past weekend and saw two PKs and copious blues. When a PK came... recalled out bard, recalled in PVPer, and took care of some business. It's really not that hard around here, even vs the most competent PK groups. At the end of the day, you can mini heal your face of, refresh your horse before they do, and just run until they have to get off. At that point... recall.
Stick around man, it gets better.

Re: The sad truth about UOSA...
When I played on OSI, UOAssist did not have nearly the escape capabilities that Razor provides.
I certainly don't remember being able to do things like set up a use-once agent for popping pouches or having a one button escape macro. Perhaps such features were included in later versions. I don't know.
Escaping a PK attack on UOSA is so much easier than escaping one on OSI, at least the OSI that I remember.

Uhm, a couple of the best players on the shard are girls. I suspect they wouldn't shed a tear for the actions described above and would put you in the position of #10 on the list.marmalade wrote: 10. learn from your mistakes instead of crying on the forums like a little girl
