"No real difference between player towns on OSI and UOSA"? Are you kidding me? OSI almost exclusively granted addons to heavy RP guilds/groups.
(and don't try to claim your "pirate" guild-fad is RP)

It wasn't just RP'ers though......TGB on Baja was a bar, they just were tight knit, very active, and held LOTS of events. No specific RP'ing like thee's and thou's or weird shit.

Mage Tower as well......unless they were RP'ing W1zards!

Custom buildings were definitely not strictly for roleplayers. They were for anyone who was active, brought something positive to their respective shards and were willing to hound staff about it.

I'm afraid I don't agree with that Matron.

Negative. Leighs Rune Library on Atlantic. I don't think anyone ever even met "Leigh", there are other examples, but this whole argument/discussion has been exhausted.

underlined the important part

Have Derrick re-post that chat with Designer Dragon et al. where they specifically state that RP is almost a pre-req to get "blessings". I don't know where he found that, lack the time to search for it.

On UOSA, we have what?
$$$, RP? Nay
-F-/mYm, RP? Nay
UOH, RP? Nay
T^B, RP? Nay
K^A, RP? Nay
T2A, RP? Nay
etc.

Obviously it is at the GM/Seers discression, but people like to use that as an excuse to say that we should have something here far too often.

who cares, the town add ons make the shard more fun. they're era accurate they were just given to different types of people and less often. it actually cost OSI money to make player towns, as they had to pay GMs or whoever, to manually create the towns. across 20 shards.

Well, presumably if it makes this shard more fun, it made their shards more fun. And their shards netted $10/month/player, so I'd absolutely believe having a GM spend an hour placing some random walls was worth the $12 they were paying him for that hour.

I agree with Matron though - my memories of the customs on Chesapeake and Catskills was that they were for RPing groups. Even a player-made tavern, in some sense, is RPing. "Thee" and "thou" is not a requirement for roleplaying, it's a flavor of it.

I like the set up that the Urk's have on this Shard.

I've not been to every player town on the map yet, but I like the atmosphere they create. I'm aware that there have been other debates on this, seen it in my hours of forum reading. Only thing I have to ask/reask is what damage are these establishments doing to the game play on the shard?

Honest question from someone who's only been here for a couple of weeks....

If player X has something, player Y is entitled to it as well. Which, as you can imagine, creates alot of dispute among players. Personally, I don't really care what addons are granted, as long as the guild is providing something, and not just "leet duel events". I think the town should at LEAST have reputable vendors, gathering places etc. As it stands, none really fit my personal opinion. Most are ghost towns or PvP guilds who want leet duels.

Bear in mind that we need to actually decay some/most of the player town addons as they have not paid upkeep (resources/gold) and have not been active in some time.

Having said that, we are very behind in our demolishing of such structures. I would say if we caught up where we are behind there would probably be 80% est. less addons in the world.

Again, we are very busy and this is not a terribly high priority.
