Archery first shot
Archery first shot
If I have bow equipped for well longer than my swing timer, and I start attacking something, there seems to be a delay before I fire my first shot. A delay on the order of like 3 or 4 seconds. Anyone know why this is? I assumed I would get an immediate shot, and then would have to wait as normal, much like you can do with any other weapon.

archery is baaad.
It hurts like hell though.

Re: Archery first shot
Archery delay is readjusted to the beginning of the 'plant and shoot' phase everytime you move or elapse the timer past the bows delay. This delay is exactly 4 ticks and than you will see the animation/sound for the next phase that is also 4 ticks long. Finally, the damage will be applied roughly 1.25s after the animation/sound phase. There is a total of 2.25s until the hit/miss portion of the shot takes place anytime you enter combat after the delay elapses past the weapon's delay or run during any of the sequence.
Re: Archery first shot
That adds up to 3.25 seconds, doesn't it?
1.00 for the plant and shoot
1.00 for the next phase (what exactly is this?)
1.25 for the flight of the arrow until it strikes
Unless I'm confused about what that second phase is... which it seems like I am.
So much for "opening" a fight with archery!

Re: Archery first shot
No, one second for the plant and shoot feature and the animation/sound delay that follows. The next tick calculates the damage that takes place with a total of 2.25s in all.
It only takes 1.25s from when the animation/sound phase starts.
It only takes 1.25s from when the animation/sound phase starts.
Re: Archery first shot
Got it, thanks for clarifying.

Ive successfully done this manuevre several times, the trick is, get a HX bow and have it equipped the whole time, dont take it off, then when you want to fre, simply attack. As long as uv given around 3 secs for bow or 6 secs for HX ur fine...thing is U can save it up 6 secs b4 u go into combat etc....BUT if ur suprised and are defending, you are at adisadvantage unless u had it equipped in prep for an attack. You can get a good 50% damage on a mage straight off and then bust out ur melee wep while charging. MAKE sure you throw explode right away, because mage can greater heal the entire 50% hits back in a 1 second pause with one spell. Then he'll run away like a panzie until u get stuck on a tree. and if you are actually getting him, he'll recall which also only takes 1 melee miss to accomplish

Re: Archery first shot
Try it. There's an enormous delay between when you double-click on someone and when you actually hit them. It feels a lot longer than 2.25 seconds, but I'll have to test it myself. I don't know why anyone in-era would have had archery as a second combat skill if this was the case...pm_lamont wrote:Ive successfully done this manuevre several times, the trick is, get a HX bow and have it equipped the whole time, dont take it off, then when you want to fre, simply attack. Yeah, I thought I remembered archer mages around this time. I'm not sure when they were big, but I remember a website called wtfman.com that made videos and one of the guys was an archer mage. Pretty sure that was a LONG time ago. I guess that may be used as a reference, lol.Mikel123 wrote:Try it. I remember archer mages being fun and actually viable though. It would be fun to play one again.
The only things I dislike is the prep timer for shooting, and if you move AFTER releasing the arrow, it voids your arrow and you have to shoot again, which makes you have to sit there again while your swordsman counterpart is molesting you with his halberd.
I know that sword/mages were the bread and butter, but I could swear I remember decent archer mages doing their thing. Although I admit I'm not 100% sure on when that was exactly.
Re: Archery first shot
Archer mages ruled around 1998, 1999-2000 they got the nerf stick and thats when hally tank mages took over. Archery used to be awesome....now it, just like on OSI shards in late 1999, is completely worthless.Milford Cubicle wrote:Yeah, I thought I remembered archer mages around this time. Re: Archery first shot
Archer mages were the top template post dreadlord days, then THE PATCH took them out of action and dexmonkies(longspear warriors were the nastiest) took over, shortly after that dexxers were toned down and the tank mage was born late 1998 early 1999. The days of the archer mage were great though damage at a distance was just way to cool, sucked if you were on the other end though.

I doubt he is referring to the plate-clad dread-lord archers. There were plenty of archer-tanks in T2A, and they did just fine.
