Hiding near a house

Post by Mikel123 »

Hiding:
If you're touching or inside of a house, you have a 90% success rate of hiding - even if you have 0 hiding. This is very effective if you're red/gray, need to go AFK or whatever.
So, this is from an archive in 2001, but this is how I remember hiding in T2A as well.

Can anyone find any patch notes from 2000-2001 saying Hiding was change? Otherwise, I sort of feel like this is a pretty reliable source.

On UOSA, it *feels* like about 60/40 to hide when next to a house.

Yes, the hiding rate is reduced if outside a house vs. touching it. The "bonuses" we are using are default RunUO, and I can't speak to their origin; this article to some extent could be a generalization on the chance; it would be nice to find more info on this.

Thanks!

Come on..you can run next to a house and hide without a problem..to me this is a waste of a 100 points.

This is certainly how I remember it working as I used this tactic all the time when a heal went bad in crucial situations. I wish I could find some proof of this, though.

I think it's more like 80-90% as well.

I think right now it's not NEARLY as useful as hiding near a house in 1999.

I know it's higher than 40% or the "default". RUnUO is way off Derrick = )

Didn't it work like this in Inns, also? Or, am I not remembering correctly?

Hmm, that's interesting. I think you're right... I remember hiding and logging out in the Britain inn (where you start) to transfer items across characters. I suppose I could have had a reasonable hiding skill, but I'm not sure... I didn't macro back then, so it couldn't have been too high.

Me either, because I used to yell at my chars for being no-hiding *#!*@! when I'd go to log.

Same. I would frequently use the drawers at the Inns to transfer items between characters and I would always attempt to hide first to remove any suspicion of what I was doing.
