The cut-out on the rear of an L-shape's footprint lets them fit in some spots that a Large Brick's 'full' 14x14 footprint wont.

Oh, ok. Duh. I should have known that. My L-Shape is placed in a spot just like that. Nothing else will fit there (other than a small) because of how the shoreline is shaped.
