New to shard

Post by Nocturnal »

As the title says I'm new to this shard. Started today in fact. I'm a bit curious as to the respawn timers here. I have not ventured out too far just yet, but I have managed to make it to the Jhelom graveyard. I decided this area would work nicely to try to train my musicianship up a bit and maybe make a gold or two doing it. I managed after a bit of time to actually kill everything in the graveyard yea me!! Anyway it is now two hours later and it has not respawned. Is this normal respawn for the shard? I started playing in 99 on OSI and I don't remember spawn times being this long of course I don't remember much about 99 anyway I was under the influence of every drug known to man then heh.

i think the graveyards are on a relatively slow spawn timer.. most of the higher-end spawns seem to be quite fast though..

I don't understand why graveyards are on a slow timer, I notice that when I goto brit graveyard it's empty half the time from mobs.

These places should have a fast respawn to attract newbs when they're so close to town.

All above world spawns are on specific timers based on three groups of low, medium, and high as according to the exact timers EA used during that time.

I think the GY's being slow though is not a good thing at all because most newbies who start off here use the GY's for money and combat training to get started. If anything the higher end mobs should be on a slower timer... not the easier/lower end mobs that are used to make $$ mostly for newbs.

I am sure that is how it is set up. Ezp would have to confirm this since he is in charge of spawns. The low timer is 5 mins for above world spawns. The full scale of the information on spawns and timers is located on the '99 stratics web site.

The graveyards are set up for newbies, however it is not a spot where they go indefinitely for skills and so forth. It is a launching pad to leap towards dungeons. If it is too fast people would simply stay there forever. I would assume that is the main reason above world spawns were set on static low, medium, and high timers.

The Britain graveyard is not the only graveyard that exists. I guarentee if I went there and it was empty that if I strolled by Jhelmon, Yew, Vesper, or any other graveyard that one if not all would be filled.

For a true newb to UO and the default start location is Brit they wouldn't know about those other dungeons. They probalby wouldn't even know to take the moongates various times (like I didn't when I first started UO) until you get to where u want to go. They probably wouldn't even recognize where they were from the moongate location. I doubt newbs or anyone would stay there indefinitely because the money there sucks, but how the spawn for the GY's was before whatever was changed was a good steady spawn rate.

This is a bit interesting and coincidental that you bring up a "true newb". The other day I let my 16 year old nephew create a character that was interested in this game from watching me play it. He had never played UO before. I was very curious how he would fair without any intervention on my part. I am one of those people that doesn't hold someone elses hand when it comes to learning a game such as Ultima. After watching him play for a few hours he had made 10x more cash than what he had started with, accumilated armor and weapons, and died very seldomly. He had no problems at the Britain graveyard from my obvservation. He also ventured in the sewers for a bit. I have personally "witnessed" a true newb on here and it didn't seem that hard to me at all.

My only issue is that the GY's are pure crap now. I went to like 5 different GY's and the mob counts were very low with no challenge. There's barely any mobs to fight. Now I haven't ventured into the sewers yet, but I think I will just to see what they are like.
