How to Role Play with the Orcs of Bloodrock

Role Playing, in and of itself is extremely easy, and next to impossible at the same time. It's impossible because of the limitations of the current technology… With one hand on the mouse, and the other had hovering over your macro keys, it's very hard to type. Since you have to type to Role Play…well you get the idea. Some very few of us are lucky enough to have played text based MUDS and are used to touch typing. Some of us can also touch type relatively error free at high speeds. The rest? Well, I'd suggest some speech and emote macros. Let's assume then for a moment that these technical limitations don't exist. What now?

Earlier I said RP'ing was extremely easy. This is very true. You RP all day long in RL. But you don't know it because you're so good at playing the Role of yourself. RP'ing in a MMORPG is just like that. Except you're not you.

In order to succeed at RP'ing in a game, you need to figure out what your motivations are. This is easy in RL. You're hungry, you get some food. You're broke, you get a job. In the game it's a bit harder. You don't have to work, you don't really have to eat, so what now? Kinda boring isn't it? This is where your imagination comes in.

You'll need to make up a good reason to come to the orc fort and visit the Bloodrock Orcs. Don't just come by the fort and expect us to do all the work. The very first thing I'd suggest you do is declare war on us. If you're 'blue' to us, we'll likely just ignore you. Why? Well, chances are you're playing a 'human', and well, humans and orcs just don't get along that well.

Does this mean we'll just fight? Not at all. Countless scenarios have been tried in the past, some to greater success than other. Maybe you can come in force and 'kidnap' one of us. If you open a gate and emote 'pushes orc into gate' I can guarantee you that the orc will play along and step through. Or maybe you can take over our fort and negotiate its return from the catwalk. But most every RP'd encounter with the orcs will lead to blows, so it is vital that you're 'orange' to us at the time. To avoid a fight upon first sight, you'd do well to set up a speech macro such as "Hold orcs, we bring tribute for the mighty Hai!" and throw down some piles of coins. This will get your foot in the door so to speak, and let us know you're here to RP and not just another dewd guild looking to loot some worthless orc helms!

Evil non-human guilds are a bit different, but not overly so. The orcs will respond to you in one of two ways. If we think of you as a lesser race, we'll likely try to enslave you and amuse ourselves by pushing you around a bit. If your guild proves the stronger we'll have just as much fun playing the grudging slaves. But you can bet that when we get enough numbers we'll eventually rebel.

I'll leave the specifics of encounters as exercises for the reader.

Hah! you better catch me off guard, catch me, or subdue me! If i get krimped that'd work too, unless you're known for gating me somewhere you know I can't get back from or where you're not following. I expect to be ransomed or the others giving a chance to rescue me.
