Secure on front steps?
Secure on front steps?
is it possible and unlootable to put a secure on the front steps.
Seems like a no brainer to put your secure here (with a key in it) if it is, hence the name, actuallly secure? (talking small house)
Is it possible and any reason not to do it?
Thanks

Re: Secure on front steps?
I think its lame that you can't do that anymore. Why can't you?
And if they removed that ability... why not remove everyones?

and also not penalizing people for the servers change

Re: Secure on front steps?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with not being able to do this anymore. This is actually quite similar to the bug on OSI during '98-'99 where you could get a secured container under the house sign. This was later fixed, however the bugged containers were still there. A friend of mine got a 72 hour ban for getting caught in the process while doing this bug.StDrahcir wrote:I think its lame that you can't do that anymore. Why can't you?

Unlike EA we don't ban people for our own mistakes. We take a grandfather approach to it quite similar to "some" of the features on EA servers. For example, houses that were placed "illegally" was not removed they were technically "grandfathered". The same goes here for our mistakes. There is no reason to punish someone for our own mistakes, unless they are severely harming the server in some shape or form.
Re: Secure on front steps?
I agree w/ this statement 100%. Yes, granted they were your mistakes, but why give someone an unfair advantage by having a secure container on your front doorsteps.Hoots wrote:that doesnt make sense... .t2a accurate. it either is or it isnt right?

Re: Secure on front steps?
There are many many examples of grandfathering of items in the game. Black dye tubs are an excellent one, created though an exploit no less, but OSI did not delete them.
The secures on steps may eventually be removed, like were done for example with tents in 1999 after a short period of grandfathering.
We plan not to allow lock-downs on steps at all as that was accurate to era, but it's something we just haven't gotten to yet. There are so many aspects to UO and we aim for 100% accuracy and are constantly working on all these issues.

there was a way to get lock down items on the steps. i remember being able to lock down a chest inside the house and lock it. then place an item on the steps where you wanted it (not in doorway i think tho). then you drag the item without putting it in your backpack to the locked "locked down" chest. the item would imediately drop where it was originally place on the steps and it would lock down. dont know the dates but i did do this.

Re: Secure on front steps?
This sounds like something that may have worked after the Lock down changes, when anything you put in a locked down chest was locked down within the chests and counted against total lockdowns against the house.
Interesting though, this is just my guess so if you have anymore details on this, please post them.

Please dear God do not implement these lockdown changes.

We don't plan to. This was generally regarded as a horrible change to the housing system.Slade wrote:Derrick wrote:, when anything you put in a locked down chest was locked down within the chests and counted against total lockdowns against the house.

the specific patch that implemented this was:
