taking away something players enjoyed?
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
As someone who just did his first event this week I would love to see more.
Re-enactment of my FIRST 1v1. (ill prepared, Got regents and a GM made hally and a hat of bless on)
YOU CAN'T DO THAT WHILE FROZEN. What1?1?
YOU CAN'T DO THAT WHILE FROZEN. Huh!?
YOU CAN'T DO THAT WHILE FROZEN. Open my 1 trapped pouch.
Try to heal.
YOU CAN'T DO THAT WHILE FROZEN.
Dead.
I honestly didn't even know what happened I had to ask the person. He said Ghoul's Touch lol sorry!
You guys act like these tourney's destroy the population of the server for hours at a time. I literally entered got destroyed in less than 10 seconds and left, with the hope to try my luck at another tourney soon.
I recently got into PVP and wish there were more tourneys.
I went red for a day after killing either defenseless people, ganking people, or killing people already low in health. I also tried to gain some skill by attacking random blues(they instantly recall) or random reds(usually ends up in more reds coming in). I have also had some duels with a friend of mine who plays in an attempt to get better at cycling etc.
For me I rarely ever see a 1v1, or "fair" (2v2/3v3/non-magicvnon-magics) fight outside of tourneys and to me thats the funnest aspect of the game.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
Again I'd like to ask all people who are trying to change our way of life on UOSA to ask themselves these two questions.
1. I'm wondering why you decided to start playing here if you already knew that WE (UOSA) held automated events?
2. After you started playing here, where did you get the audacity to try and change our shard?
Yes I knew there was events before I started. I was even put off by it because it made the pvp look boring, but once I joined the shard I found the field was fun and reminded me of the game I used to love pvping in. Of course pvp isn't the only reason I play here, I was amazed by how cool the community was even around banks which never happened on other player-run shards.
Just because I knew this shard had events after starting here doesn't mean my opinions and input are not valid. I didn't change the way events work here now. I only voiced my opinions and input!
I have personally changed your shard though, during my 8 months playing here I've easily brought 100+ players here through advertising on popular MMORPG forums, word of mouth, old UO ICQ's and UO forums. The Mortal Online forums ALONE has brought so many players here it's insane, I got so quite a few PMS and feedback in the thread about UOSA.
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
Who are they? names please names. Actually back up somthing you are saying.Psilo wrote:
They do exist, they play events 80% of the time and UO 20%.
How do you possible figure having players logging in around events then playing the game are somehow worse than players not logging in? This is mind blowing to me. Why somone logs on to play the game is much less important than the fact that they logged on and are now playing the game.
Who are these people, names pls.Psilo wrote:Then these players who care about CBD/neon hair will be playing in Brittania 80% of the time instead of just events because they will be farming gold and playing UO to get these prizes.
Who are the tournament crowd and who are the UO players, please elobrate with examples.Psilo wrote: There's the "tournament crowd" then there's the UO players.
Your arguments still are focused on people who dont exist. Please dont blow this off and do a run around. Actually answer the questions. These huge amount of palyers who are destroying the shard by only playing events and never playing the actual game. I want to know who they are.

<IronfistMax> tell me where you are in game, and ill come thank you personally

Derrick, I sincerely believe we need to focus on other things that effect large amounts of our players like PVP mechanics. We need to focus on making sure insta-hit works next patch.
Removing events can wait, or not happen at all. Please!Psilo wrote: If we want this shard to continue to grow and succeed I believe we're going to need to be careful what we change for Era Accuracy.
I am all for era accuracy, and want everything else accurate. I don't think minor changes that negatively affect the community and game immersion in such a substantial way is a good idea. Accurate or not, if this change goes through this will be the next thing to chop the community in half

I, personally, think the Trammel PVP is stupid, but I don't care enough to make a fuss.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
I find 1v1's all the time! Feel free to look at my thread in trash talk forum, most of the screenshots are me soloing through dungeons, graveyards, guild's towns, spawns and other points of interest. There's 1v1's to be found everywhere. For me I rarely ever see a 1v1, or "fair" (2v2/3v3/non-magicvnon-magics) fight outside of tourneys and to me thats the funnest aspect of the game.
One of the reasons why you may not see as many 1v1's as there should be is because people think a 1v1 only happens in a tournament. The way you 1v1 on the field and tourney is both completely differnet. In tournaments you fight more 50%-to-hit hally spamming since there's no escape in a small ring from it, on the field you gotta think outside of the box cause that just won't work and thank god.
Have people forgotten that most of the 1v1 pvp that we loved in UO all those years ago was on the field. Mount or foot, there was never always a ring keeping you in.
And since when did a 1v1 not allow you to drink a red pot? Food just doesn't cut it!
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
Actually, I was here before there were any automated events put in place, so, I have the right to cast a vote in this topics favor. Sadly Psilo, you were not here in early 2008 so your opinion honestly matters not on this subject. If you we're able to even compete in the events im sure this topic wouldn't even exist.
+1 for events. Restore them to their original intensity. Let's hit that 750-800 online average again.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
The population influx that took us up to almost 850 was due to a popular german shard collapsing. We are finally recessing back to a level that reflects those players true client count when the majority of their multi-clienting continues to subside over time.
Try taking a look at our client count graph. The time the german shard collapsed is very apparent a few months back inside the graph and the additional massive amounts of multi-clienting has slowly been subsiding to a level that better refelects their true additional client count.

The only 1v1 tournament I ever joined was player-run and I won first place for 200kIf you we're able to even compete in the events im sure this topic wouldn't even exist.

Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
Comparing your UO, now dead?, to WOW most popular game in the history of MMORPG's only strengthens the argument for more tourneys.Psilo wrote:Go play WOW if you want a game where you farm "points"(silver) for colorful armor(neon sandals/hair/special dye) in a carebear instanced environment(event zones) with restricted pvp(can't attack team mates or heal enemies). That's not UO at all.
I personally left WOW to come here because of the time commitment required to be competitive. Here, with macroing and casually playing I built up skills on a few characters and enough wealth to have a tower and some decent magic items. Imagine the players online if you tapped into .01% of WOW's players.
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
The problem is the only population we can tap into are people who want sandbox type games. Hence the reason why I was able to get many interested in UOSA at the Darkfall and Mortal Online forums. Many of those fans are from WOW and maybe had WOW as their first MMORPG, but they are the ex WOW players who want a sandbox.snooch wrote:Comparing your UO, now dead?, to WOW most popular game in the history of MMORPG's only strengthens the argument for more tourneys.Psilo wrote:Go play WOW if you want a game where you farm "points"(silver) for colorful armor(neon sandals/hair/special dye) in a carebear instanced environment(event zones) with restricted pvp(can't attack team mates or heal enemies). We can't get the % of people who enjoy a game that tells you what to do, places emphasis on gear that is nearly unattainable so you spend your time going for that goal.
UO is less goal-oriented in that respect. UO is more like living a life, it's a really deep game. WOW is basically a less fun 3d version of Diablo II. It's really not that deep, it's all about items and even the items aren't as fun to attain as Diablo II.
What I am saying is these are two different crowds...WOW is appealing in so many ways if we brought those into UOSA we would kill the integrity of UOSA.
I would rather have less players online at a given time than to have events, I find enough action and player interaction from the people who just play as normal.

The possible pvpers that I could be seeing on the field aren't there because they don't find field pvp fun anymore cause there is nothing to "gain" in the sense there's no silver to get or instant gratification through CTF and what have you. I believe events burn our pvpers out and condition them to think 1v1 is only acceptable or "meaningful" in automated tourney. I really dislike this mentality, what happen to simple fun of running around in Brittania and creating a sideshow with adventure for yourself and the people you're with.Your arguments still are focused on people who dont exist. Instant gratification is FPS, UO is an RPG. Relax, don't worry if there's no automated instances this isn't a damn theme park like WOW lol.
Re: taking away something players enjoyed?
So about 20 pages of your posting against events now are based on players on UOSA you cant name because they dont exist?

Ill give an example for Psilo: Spanky.
Also, if events get nerfed to hell, then the trophy output should be increased. 5 silver per CTF, 10 pts for survival, 10-50 ptr for 1v1 etc.

I agree, the less events the more they should be worth each. I also think gold should be able to purchase era accurate prizes, what a great gold sink...but that's another discussion of its own.son wrote: Also, if events get nerfed to hell, then the trophy output should be increased. 5 silver per CTF, 10 pts for survival, 10-50 ptr for 1v1 etc.
I really hate the idea of silver being worth even more(and even it's current price, it seems like a lame way to make quick money.
Gold should be the standard, not forms of currency that can only be attained at certain times like silver.
