In this month I have had some great advice given to me by people in IRC that has helped my time so far be fantastic.
Before I hopped onto IRC I was already well on my way with my thief who is almost done being built. The down fall is he is also on the same account as my main who is currently my bard so he hasn't been used much. But my bard has made me some good money.
My first real day on the server where I played on my main I was brought to an idoc and I got some junk out of it but Bongy and his guys made me feel welcome. Then the next night I happened to stumble across another idoc north of Brit near the mountains where I managed to grab some other loot. It was a great way to start on the server.
Before my bard I used my tailor mule to attempt to make shirts to pay for my first house. I had that and placed it in a location that fits a L-Shaped. But never being happy with that I kept looking for places. Matron was really nice and traded me a house on Glow for a vanq warhammer.
After that I was able to save enough to purchase a large brick from acusticwind. It was a lengthy process to have us both on at the same time but in the end we traded the house without a hitch, and I am now in a spot I consider good to start building up my characters.
I just wanted to thank everyone who has answered my questions, hopped onto test center to work out with me that the placement rules on test are not the same as on live, who have given me tasks to do to make some money, and even the people who will be a dick to you on IRC one moment but do anything they can to help you stay on UOSA.
I have seen posts from people complaining about the lack of community on these forums. But from what I can see there are more people willing to help new players on this server then there ever was on OSI or any other free servers I have played in the past.
Now just need the PK's to stop chasing me off my spawn.
