Team Stacking and Daily Events
Team Stacking and Daily Events
i've never bothered to try one of the many daily events here.
it's really easy to see that most games end in a slaughter.
i see this type of activity on many other video games, people
who REALLY WANT TO WIN. and forget the concept of a video game.
it's just a digital game, life is fleeting, play for fun once in a while.
my question is, are all teams chosen by the players every single time?
if so that opens the door to a team stack.
essentially players already skilled at the game group up and play against people who may
never have even played or randoms with no strategy and no chance in hell of voice com.
everyone likes to win once in a while, and seems like poor sportsmanship when
reputable players continue to stack teams to pile up riches that collect dust.
you may learn something playing with new group members.
what i'd like to see is some element of randomization or possibly an auto balance.

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
I agree, i think the teams should be totally random.
Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
The 'team' automated events - CTF, Bagball,2v2,3v3,4v4 tournys, Double Domination
For CTF players chose their teams. 9/10 times it randomizes so it tries to autobalance the teams based on skill sets of the players. For games like that where the characters skills are important to the game it can be randomized (poorly).
Ultimately this method ends up stacking one team 9/10 times because it cant tell the skill of players controlling the characters.
Double domination operates the same way.
the 2v2,3v3,4v4 tournys players chose their teams because they want to win, they team up with friends and use voice com or what not. This could be randomized by skill of the people signing up but I dont think people would be too happy
People spend a lot of time practicing together to play as a team. It would be unfair to them to split them up as much as it would be unfair to the player who cant pvp but signe dup for a pvp event..
Bagball could be ranomized, but the system would have no way of telling who was a better player or if the teams are stacked (as it only fills when both teams have the same number of players). But it is the same as the pvp tournament. People want to play with their friends on the same team so they sign up as so. If 3/10 players know what they are doing in bagball the team that gets 2 of them are going to win every time.
The best bagball games I have ever played at least half of the players on both teams knew what they were doing
Randomizing will never be able to do as good a job as the players :<

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
well obviously the tourney 2v2 etc are meant to not be random.
this is my original point exactly, people who NEED TO WIN.
i have nothing against blackfoot, but he's rich, he's been here for a long ass time.
he knows a lot of people. in short he does have connections, at least much more
so than people who want to try this stuff out. i'm not singling him out, there's tons of
people who play with this mindset.
so, every game you join is going to be with a leet crew and you have an advantage.
random = fun and surprise.
you may have a bagball team with hemp and chum, what if some duels were like this?
you'd never know what you were up against or teaming up with. arguably more tactics
and quick thinking would be learned from such unknown situations.
would probably end up as a funny event sometimes, and instead of people flexing their
pants, they would leave laughing.
it always surprises me to see veterans who need to play with the advantage.
you don't lose anything, it's just a video game.
so really, who cares if you get stuck with people who haven't mastered an event
they have never played... you may meet some cool people. or encourage new players
to keep playing this shard.
there's enough of these events that at least half should be random.
if you don't want to play randomized teams that's cool, just play the other half
of the events. seems like that would encompass all players.

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
Sounds more like attacking veterans motives for playing a game. Just take out the prize for bagball and then only people who like bagball will sign up, take time to learn to play, and it will be more fun.

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
that's also a great idea.
removal of the prize would force people to play for fun, potentially.
wouldn't stop a team stack though. :\
not attacking anyone, you replied reiterating my original qualms
so i used your name. my apologies if you were offended from being the example.
leaving the prize in there would make some new people happy though i'm sure.
i'm doing fine now and really a 7k coin prize isn't going to make or break me.
but this is something that would be a lot of fun for people who just joined.
a whole team of new players who played a couple times and won, would
have a nice chunk to go run around with and begin training.
this is largely why i'm so adamantly suggesting at least half the events
be randomized teams.
there's a lot more stuff on the server for veterans than people wanting to
become a veteran and help shard growth. this would open the doors
up a bit..

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
So this is purely about bagball and not about all group events?
A note/suggestion about current automated bagball (my fav event)
Change the sign up process -
Why? - As of now when there's a bagball game there is about 5-6 veteran players who love bag ball waiting at the book. Much the same way pvpers are, bagball players probably dont want to play on a team with people who dont know what they are doing (or against one), Its frustrating/boring. So they all end up joining one team and then waiting for the other one to fill up. It ends up with a team that is gona have a lot of fun passing the ball around v a team with one afk veteran and 4 noobs.
How? - Have a survival game style sign up. Have an initial game that holds less players (3v3 etc) sign up open. This will allow all those bagball enthusiasts to sign up to a game v other enthusiasts without any team stacking as both teams know what they are doing. Once the first game reaches a win (or some other point) sign ups for the next game immediately close and those players signed up are randomized to play. (if this sounds confusing go to a survival game)
This solves your problem of 'team stacking' as well as lets noobs learn v other noobs. If you think those players who show up early will wait until the second game to play newer players they will be randomized. They would most likely play the first game where they can chose their team.
Also, Make the bagball field public. Players could host their own bagball events or guild bag balls or just practice there. Much like there are so many dueling pits to practice in.
Disallowing guilds to play as teams anymore isnt a long term solution to building competitive players in what really is a competitive game. This is absolutely my favourite game and I like playing with with my guildies I would be playing it without prizes just the same.
or we could do nothing and everyone can come here http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16049 !!!

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
Ive seen this problem before and noone on the winning team is gonna give a hoot. First noone is gonna argue that 1v1, 2v2, etc. be forced to do anything other than what they do now. But CTF and DD is just a waste of time if your not part of the crew. Unless your lucky enough to get put on the winning team by some stroke of luck it is the l337's vs the nubs. I would love to see complete random teams in CTF and DD. Leave the pvp tourny's alone. I would also love to see blackfoots idea for bagball implemented. I never got to play bagball on OSI, and the couple times i played it here it was an organized team vs randoms...and it blew. I think i would love bagball but i have no clue what to do. Someone told me to fill a backpack with ore and drag it around to get experienced, i went to the provo to buy a bag and was like..."F*** this im not gonna drag an overloaded bag of ore around practicing drag drop just to go get beat at bagball" The only reason i would think there would be opposition to this is that the better players arent looking for competition they are looking for dominance.
Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
I honestly can't remember the last time I actually played on the team I signed up for, and I'm usually the first 25%. Fuck the randomizer

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
I think the re-balance usually just takes the last few odd players on the team(s) with extras and decides where they go. Usually (almost always) if I get on a team early with a bunch of other people, we stay on the same team.
I think the only way to be fair about this is to completely randomize teams, why even have a choice? If a friend is rotated off a team, he usually just does a crappy job, doesnt protect flag, or goes afk anyway.
Last Man Standing is a whole other discussion...

Just join w/e team has the most people, if everyone is on one team, the game will even and randomize the teams

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
CTF and BagBall teams should be randomized 100% of the time.
Just in the name of fairness.
Just in the name of fairness.
Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
On the other side of the same coin why is it fair to not allow two friend to play on the same team?
(9:07:20 AM) SecondAge: The Bag Ball game is over the winner is Green Team with 5 points. Blue Team had 3 points.
That just finished. is system broke? or is that not close enough of a score.

Re: Team Stacking and Daily Events
though I sometimes like to be in the same team with a friend, maybe the only way to keep it "fair" would be to make it completely random. Like, sign up for event, no teams to choose. Then, auto assign. But many people would not like that. I know guilds like to do DD together.
