Other Uses for the MOTD

Is there any way that MOTD could be used to advertise player ran events?
Forums/Irc are the only options now aside from hassling admin for in game system messages.
Compared to the overall player base not many people use irc or forums (assumption based on our guild alone).

It would be a good way to give players notice that somthing is happening aside from having to be logged in by chance when the system message goes out.

Thoughts?

I think that would get annoying really quick. Especially with someone who logs in/out frequently. I know that you can "disable" the MOTD, but that ruins the purpose to begin with. I think some sort of "calandar" would be more appropriate.

How about use the town criers? Putting them to use like the old days would be a good way to announce player events.

Why not make a player maintained event schedule in the museum or something?

the message board doesnt work properly, jsut like the ones in town, messages erase quickly and get spammed with garbage quickly
