Speedhacking
Speedhacking
I made a thread about this before, but it was a more of a question and many people didn't seem to think it was even a possibility. So im opening it up again, this time with a better title and a source.
in a recent UO Herald post http://www.uoherald.com/news/ The one titled Producer's Letter - Where are we and what the heck are we doing?
Calvin Crowner
note in the full post he touches on speedhacking being a current problem on official servers, and that they are working on a solution. This confirms to me that speedhack/gear is a possibility on UOSA and shouldn't be completely overlooked by staff or players.
I've had run-ins with a couple well known PKs on more than one occasion. They stand out particularly because of their speed. These players seem to move faster than me, both mounted, and my ping is usually around 120-150. not that bad, imo.
One thing I used to do on OSI to test a speedhacker was find trees or a group of small 1 tile obstacles. If you run zigzags around these trees speedhackers will overshoot every turn because they are skipping tiles. Its worked successfully on this server more than once when i've suspected my attacker of speedhacking.
interested in all input

Re: Speedhacking
From my experience, people just assume that because others are able to run faster than they can, they speedhack.
I chased down and killed someguy on horseback with my kryss, because I was faster than him. I certainly don't 'speedhack', however from his point of view, it might have looked like I was, because he couldn't outrun me; or even stay at the same pace.
I think it comes down to various factors for the most part, like latency and your computer itself.
But thats me.

Re: Speedhacking
Computer speed also plays a factor in determining your speed/lag versus other players. If your computer takes longer to pull images and tiles to display, it can create draw lag. So if your running from someone who might already have those same images and tiles precached, they will eventually catch up to you.
Lower framerate = lag
Lower framerate = lag

The current "Hack of the Month"
Is causing people to mass desinq during combat. you can claim anything you want, thats what is causing it.
When you never desinq ever except when fighting certian people you know there is a problem
killed my statloss pk's 4 times now with thier nonsense. and its going to keep me from logging in anymore i think.
Those who do it know who you are.

Sorry but what does this post mean? That desynching is caused by or does wha-?tekai wrote:The current "Hack of the Month"

Re: Speedhacking
The server doesn't allow anyone to go faster than 0.1s per tile. This is set in stone where no connection, speedhacking, or computer hardware can bypass. These things can only increase your performance up to this cap where you would otherwise not be at without them.
Re: Speedhacking
120-150 is not a great ping, unfortunately. I ping 22ms and noticed the same thing as you though. There were definitely some people I suspected, and some people I was damn-near sure of.
There was one guy who was literally running circles around me in Destard. I was chasing him, and he was running in a circle - but I was chasing him from inside his circle - so I was traveling over much less ground than he was, in the same amount of time. Never caught up.

Re: Speedhacking
Faust, what is the standard pace for a horse? Isn't it 2 tiles per .25 sec? So .125 sec per tile?
Re: Speedhacking
Derrick mentioned that to me one time but I forgot exactly what it was.
He would probably be the best person to go to with that question.

Re: Speedhacking
You could run full speed on a horse on roughly a 150 ping on OSI. OSI allowed 3 tiles movement before it required response from the server. RunUO allows something like 6 tiles, and I have been able to run full speed on pings of around 280-300 in the past.Mikel123 wrote:120-150 is not a great ping, unfortunately. I can't imagine anyone actually owning a PC that can't run UO at maximum performance, this day in age. Unless they're still living in their mom's basement and she can't afford to buy snookums a new one.
